How would you gather 'enough' dust etc inside a BD player to stop it working? The tray is only open for a few seconds at a time. How unclean is your house?

I always answered that question. My Mum's DVD Player is near a fire and needed to be cleaned using once of these once. Fire's give out there fair share of soot.

You're not supposed to put electrical goods near a fire (near enough to gather soot anyways).

Yeah I was going to say that, due to the heat.

Have you guys ever had a fireplace in your front room? Soot naturally gathers all over the room. Even with a fireguard, soot naturally travels. You don't need it close (i.e - heat) for soot to eventually get into places it shouldn't.

Just like dust (which doesn't cause a problem here) naturally goes all over the room.

Yeah but it says in the instruction manuals for electronic items not to place them near a source of heat.

What should we do? Put it in the kitchen maybe? :D. Seriously, it doesn't mean you cannot have it in the same room as a fireplace. It means don't put it literally next to the fireplace, which obviously we're not doing. Fireplaces are common.

Anyway, like I said. I used a CD/DVD lens cleaner and it read DVDs again.

It doesn't mean a fireplace Gas. They're common all over the world. Where do you expect her to put it? Besides, like I've said several times. It's not near the fireplace, soot gets everywhere.

Eh? You're just contradicting yourself, you've said three times in this thread that it's near a fire, and now you're saying it's not near a fire, wtf?

Not near, as in "not near enough to get hot", which is what the manual is referring to.

Brad, if the soot coming from your fire place is enough to clog a BD player (which may or may not be near a fire, let us know when you decide) then your lungs must be all but buggered.

I've been very clear where said DVD Player is, it's not my fault you guys aren't getting it.

Brad, why do you never seem to read your prior posts when people accuse you of saying something you deny?

Just admit you were sending out mixed messages thanks to your original post, that you didn't originally mean "right near" the fire but simply "in the same room as a fire, near enough to be effected by soot the fire pumps into the room" apologise for the complication and let the conversation move on! :icon_suspect:
