Well, we nearly lost hundreds of pounds via e-bay hacking, so Grim is right to be cautious. People tend to be cavalier until it happens to them...

no,its a once only deal. if the item doesn't sell you are barred from relisting it ever again.if you are caught relisting ebay issue you a warning,try it twice and they ban you.

People tend to also follow like lemmings when one person has a problem too ;)

You do realise Mark millions of people successfully use eBay daily. The percentage of problems must be under 10% then most get sorted out, as yours did by the sounds of it. I've just made £350 which I'd never have made any other way for stuff I no longer want.

:D

Grim I keep telling you it's way to early to have ANY idea how much your items will go for but I think we can safely say the chances of two pristine box sets not going for £2.99 each is pretty minimal. Be patient ;)

I've discovered if you list DVDs as "Other format" instead of DVD you can still add postage. This means of course your DVD won't appear in the DVD category but frankly who uses that anyway? Everyone searches.

Having no postage has made it incredibly difficult to make any money off DVDs. You can no longer list DVDs at 99p, which makes them stand out. Sure you can use Playtade but for DVDs from outside UK you still need eBay.

I should also add this restriction doesn't apply to the Blu-ray or CD category, just DVD. So you can still list your BDs under the right category (for now!) but list DVDs under "Other Format".

you can list Region 1 dvds on Playtrade.not region 3 though.anyway from 22nd October:

From 19th October 2009 sellers listing in selected media categories will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option. To help you adapt listings quickly and easily we’re also introducing new bulk editing functionality in mid September.

Excessive P&P costs are often mentioned as a major reason for buyers spending less on eBay - especially in the very competitive media categories. Where eBay has tested making offering a free delivery service a requirement, we haveseen buyers respond positively and conversion rates of listed items rise.

Media items are often impulse purchases and buyers perceive free P&P as a great deal. By making postage & packaging free we aim to attract more buyers to the media categories and increase sales for media sellers.

New Final Value Fee promotion
We understand that sellers might be concerned that they'll have to absorb the cost of P&P so we’ll be offering Final Value Fee promotions and other incentives from time to time. From 20 August 2009 to 30 September 2009, eBay Shop owners will qualify for a 20% Final Value Fee discount when they offer free P&P in any Media category. (Terms & conditions apply and will be available on the eBay.co.uk General Announcement Board a few days before 20th August.)
Existing Final Value Fee promotions for shop owners offering free P&P in CSA and Tech categories will also be extended until September 30th (extension also applies to UK DVD category)
Sellers should also remember free postage & packaging applies only to the first domestic P&P option. Further chargeable postage services can be offered as alternatives.

Tips for media sellers:

* Free P&P only applies to the first domestic option – you can still offer further chargeable service options

Which categories do I have to offer free P&P in?
Your first domestic postage option must be free for these categories:
Books, Comics & Magazines DVD, Film & TV Music

* Accessories
* Annuals
* Antiquarian & Collectable
* Audio Books
* Children's Books
* Collections & Lots
* Comics
* Educational/ Textbooks
* Fiction Books
* Magazines
* Modern Maps & Atlases
* Non-Fiction Books

* Accessories/ Storage
* Film Memorabilia
* Other Film Formats
* TV Memorabilia
* Videos: VHS

* Accessories/ Storage
* Cassettes
* CDs
* Music Memorabilia
* Other Music Formats
* Records

I didn't know that thanks.

Gee thanks. I've always managed to sell 90% of my "bog standard" DVDs by charging £2.50 plus £2.00 postage. Whilst yes it doesn't cost £2 to post it costs a lot more than the postage cost once sellers have paid the excessive eBay/PayPal fees.

The simple fact is a 99p DVD listing stands out, something eBay have completely killed off by forcing DVDs to be sold with free postage. Sure some sellers are put off by postage fees (despite the fact they're clearly listed next to the price) but more are putt off buy a higher price of the "goods".

Looking at that list above, it seems books are also to be included in the free p+p which is ridiculous! Books are heavy and cost a reasonable amount of money to send. I can see some people making a loss on books in the future.

It is hilarious as latley I have been getting dvds for very little and the seller is obviously loosing cash selling the item after fees and postage :D dumb people deserve it I say, gives me plenty of bargains.

I remember a book I bought years ago (Species 2 - great large detailed picture book, shit film but hey) cost me 1p, he paid about £4 postage haha the poor sod, then any fees on top :D so he paid over £4 to mess about selling on ebay, nice, he may have well have binned it and saved himself cash

I dont even bother selling on Ebay anymore apart from the odd sod, forums are the only way for me now as I have shifted maybe 500 items on forums with no fees. Still it is harder to rip people off with overpriced items on forums haha

Well kind of, if you are on specific forums you can sell almost anything :D depends on how far you want to enter the world of alternate forums.

I see almost everything sell on the big dvd forums, equipment, bikes, cloths, toys, jewelry etc... I have alsorts to get rid of myself (not jewelry mind you haha) and forums are going to be looked into first :)

Free Postage & Packaging policy to be replaced with maximum limits on postage charges
In 2009 a free Postage & Packaging (P&P) policy was
introduced in categories where excessive postage charges
were a problem. Although buyers have responded positively,
some sellers indicated that it is having a negative impact on
their business and asked for alternative options to prevent
excessive postage. Therefore, to help drive further sales while
enabling sellers to continue running a successful business,
the existing free P&P policy in all categories will be removed
and replaced with maximum limits to P&P charges from
8 February 2010.

Hey,
I put some more things on Ebay - not sure if 99p was too low a price (starting), theyre just DVDs though but 1 is a boxset of sorts.

One is Sleeping Beauty R1 50th AE
One is Batman Begins/Dark Knight 4 DVD set.

Starting that Batman set off at 99p is risky...the market is flooded with those titles and if you get £3-£4 it'll cost you half that to post,then ebay fees....you'll be virtually giving it away.Sleeping Beauty should fetch a reasonable price.

Ebay is a hole of shit latley, it cannot get any worse :rage:
I was ripped off last month, some scumbag never sent me the dvd in time. You now only have 45 Days to file a complaint, it used to be 60 or 90 the twats! Now it is 45days for even an Ebay complaint, in line with Paypal, so if someone never send you a disc, you cannot do anything at all with Ebay or Paypal once 45 days is done, and cannot leave negative feedback or do a single thing to tell people these people are scum.

Except stick the twatty company who ripped you off (and ignores your emails) on every single porno and scummy email spam list known to man, I hope I ruin their company the amount of lists I am sticking their email on :thumbs: Tempted to make a few fake Ebay accounts and buy loads of their Blu Rays, and then say I never got them and slam them for Paypal payback fees.

Maybe £1.99 is a better starting price for Batman?

Why start low at all? postage will cost way more than that, at least sell it and make some cash. I do not understand why anyone puts a price low, ever, if it sells for low you are then suffed and only loose cash.

I have had items for pennies, and the fools forgot about free postage and ended up giving me the item for a big loss after they add in fees and postage, all items started low dont go up, so why even risk it I say. You are there to make cash, not to toss it down the drain :D
