Figured I might as well start a thread for Bond 24.

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, some disturbing images, sensuality and language.

After SKYFALL I'm cautious about this one. I hope it's an improvement (especially in the script dept.).

@ 147:58 this is the longest entry in the 007 franchise.

Interesting.. I assume those cuts apply worldwide Although with Casino Royale (a similar case), the Oz release was uncut and the UK got an uncut release a little later.

Why would you expect them to apply worldwide? Didn't all the other Bond films that were cut in the UK always play uncut elsewhere (except the US sometimes had their own cut version)?

Could never get confirmation from the BBFC on that one and damned if I recall where I read it.
The obvious jump cut backs it up however.

I didn't know so many old Bond films had been cut by BBFC. Thanks for the info.

I was mainly referring to License to Kill, Goldeneye and Casino Royale, which I believe played uncut in Continental Europe at least. Or am I mistaken?

Licence to Kill and Casino Royale were shown uncut in some countries.

Are you sure about that? A Finnish film censorship site (in English) states the Finnish VHS from 1996 was uncut, while the later Finnish DVD releases were cut (the first dvd release was the cut German version; the later dvd was the cut BBFC version). The official Finnish film censorship office (in Finnish) states the Finnish VHS ran 125:18 (PAL) and the Finnish theatrical version (which they rated '16'... before and after an appeal) ran 130:30. If you convert 130:30 to PAL in becomes 125:17 - in other words, the same as the VHS which is supposed to be uncut. The Finnish DVD release from 1999 (which I believe should be the BBFC version) on the other hand is listed at 125:00, which is 17 seconds less than the VHS.

It's possible the running times listed above are not "accurate" (e.g. feature studio logos) but they do seem consistent with each other and with the claim of the VHS being uncut. Oddly enough, the running times reported by [urlhttp://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/goldeneye-1995 ]BBFC[/url] are always about 1 minute shorter... perhaps they are listed without studio logos.

I suspect the "uncut" Finnish VHS is simply the PG-13/international version now available everywhere on BD.

The truly uncut version has never been shown anywhere.

I guess that would make sense.

Spectre is getting reasonably positive reviews. I wasn't a big fan of Skyfall, while some reviews mention this falls short of that movie, so not sure what to make of that. Also some criticize the length (that's what she said...) and the ending.

My expectations are tempered this time - after Skyfall, which contrary to most I found a disappointment.

I've never seen Skyfall but loved QOS...not a big Bond fan..but tbh Mark you dislike virtually everything so i would never use you as a review barometer for me anyway

Not true. I'm just not easy pleased or a sheep that follows trends. Do you read my quick takes? Plenty of films I like and give decent or better star ratings to.

Yeah I think Mark's problem is that this isn't really a good forum for discussing gay porn, if it was he'd be churning out lots of positive reviews of the films he loves!

TBH I always found the whole lady-killer aspect of Bond the least interesting thing, so I wouldn't care if he was gay or not. It'll never happen of course!

I would care, but only because it goes against the original character.

Kinda like I don't mind characters eating healthy, but I do mind when they suddenly turned Cookie Monster into Moderate Cookie Monster, who promotes a healthy, balanced diet.

I don't mind gay (lead) characters at all. I do mind when it's only used for scoring shock-value headlines and goes against an already established character.

Perhaps M could be gay?

I also find it amusing that Bond killing hundreds or thousands of people throughout the series is considered perfectly acceptable, yet the notion he could possibly kiss/fuck a dude is somehow controversial...

Maybe Bond could have experimented? CR was a reboot after all, and it was heavily implied Le Chiffre was gay (imo). Bond's distrust of women could lead to him experimenting with guys, who knows?

I think it was Skyfall's 'Silva' who was supposed to be gay and to whom Bond made his ambiguous remark.

Personally, I feel if they want to make movies with gay lead characters, that's fine. But not Bond. Bond is what he is - and one of those things is a beaver badgering sexist.
