Sabotage (Schwarzenegger, Ayer) (2014)
Have I been living under a rock, or did this come out of nowhere? I didn't know David Ayer (End of Watch, which happens to be one of the best cop movies in the recent years) was directing Schwarzenegger in his next film. And the trailer is out already:

Frankly it seems a bit cliched, scripted by Skip Woods who has never done anything worthwhile, and I'm not sure Schwarzenegger's acting skills are up to it but I do have trust in Ayer.

First I've heard of it.
Could be good... like yourself I rated End of Watch, although this is clearly a different proposition altogether.
I just checked out Skip Woods' writing credits... KEEP THIS MAN AWAY FROM A KEYBOARD!!

Yeah I heard that Arnie personally appointed David, the studio execs asked Arnie which filmmaker would most satisfy his fanbase & Arnie told them: "give these people Ayer!!!".HungFist wrote:Have I been living under a rock, or did this come out of nowhere? That sounds like a good call.Shingster wrote:Yeah I heard that Arnie personally appointed David, the studio execs asked Arnie which filmmaker would most satisfy his fanbase & Arnie told them: "give these people Ayer!!!".HungFist wrote:Have I been living under a rock, or did this come out of nowhere? To be honest, I can't think of many good directors for Arnold. Some people keep suggesting names like John McTiernan (for the next Die Hard) but who knows if these 80's masters have their skills anymore? Still, I'd love to see Verhoeven do the next Conan.
Too bad Cameron is busy making 15 Avatar sequels

I thought End of Watch was a harrowing and effective film. Though I don't know when/if I will rewatch it.
Don't forget about the heart surgeries for Arnold as well. I know that hurt his workouts. Has anyone read his autobiography? He talks about this in it.
I'll see this in the theater.

It's fun and interesting from a man who really did not let anything stop him.Markgway wrote:I have his autobiography, but haven't gotten round to reading it yet.
I like his 10 rules for life:
1) Never let pride get in your way.
2) Don't overthink.
3) Forget Plan B
4) You can use humor to settle a score.
5) The day has twenty-four hours.
6) Reps, reps, reps
7) Don't blame your parents.
8) Change takes big balls.
9) Take care of your body and your mind.
10) Stay Hungry.
Of course he gives explanation for all of these.

This certainly looks like Arnie's real comeback in action movies.

While it's not a promising start, let's not jump the American boat right yet. Many of these recent Arnold and Sly films have made up to 82% of their box office outside USA (e.g. Escape Plan: 25 million in USA, 112 million abroad).Markgway wrote:Looks like it's another flop for Arnold.

The Last Stand wasn't a great hit anywhere, though. Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure it was a profitable production in the end. People always forget there's big money in the DVD, TV and VoD markets. The film actually made its production budget back in theaters alone (45 million --> 48 million).

Re: Sabotage (Schwarzenegger, Ayer) (2014)
Analysts always go by the US box office when deciding what's hot and what's not.
Most movies will eventually make their money back internationally or on home video - even the biggest of turkeys - but it's the opening weekend that gets studios excited.
As far as that goes, Sabotage - like The Last Stand and Escape Plan - is a flop. All three of them opening at under $10m.
Arnold's last #1 hit was Terminator 3, which opened with $44m.
If the upcoming T5 doesn't do similar business I think his career as a leading man may be (sadly) washed up.

Arnie will hardly be the leading man in T5 though, no? Maybe he could be the 'human' the T800 would be based on or something like that
