BOTTOM 5 HOLLYWOOD FILMS 1980-1999

This was done somewhat quick and crude, but these are about right for my bottom 5. Re. 80s:

7 shared choices.

Q - The Winged Serpent was on my shortlist, but I didn't include it simply because I never actually finished the film. I turned it off after about a half hour. Perhaps I was too hasty but it looked crap.

Police Academy was on my top 10 list!
You must really hate this series (you included Part 5 twice!) :D

Oops, like I said, quick and crude. I of course meant part 6. Could have gone with Pink Cadillac too.

Re. 90s choices:

Dances With Wolves
Hudson Hawk
Lethal Weapon 3
American Pie

Three of those were on my TOP lists and LW3 was on my short list!

I understand that Hudson Hawk is extremely offbeat and American Pie too crude for some tastes (normally I hate this sort of movie myself) but surprised to see Dances with Wolves and Lethal Weapon 3 (which isn't a classic like 1 & 2 but is still miles better than 4) on your shit list.

I'll complete my own 90s lists very soon.

Hudson Hawk is a debacle in my opinion. But it had potential to be at least a goofy heist comedy on par with something like Woo's Once A Thief, if they restrained themselves a little. But it just goes way over the top in almost every scene. Poorly constructed, cartoonish characters, awful performances etc.

I don't find American Pie crude at all. I find it boring and painfully unfunny. Were people supposed to laugh at peepee and weewee jokes in 1999. Ooooh, tits... how raunchy. It's not like they hadn't been doing this stuff since the 70's. And on a personal note, I wanna blow my brains out everytime I see Sean William Scott trying to be funny on screen.

Dances With Wolves I just find pretentious, culturally ignorant, waaaaaaaaaaay too long and the whole "white savior" thing was old by that time, and even older now, though they're still doing it.

Lethal Weapon 3 had none of the energy of the first two. The cast chemistry felt incredibly forced, and Joe Pesci was ten times as annoying as he was in part 2. The villains were boring, and Rene Russo's character felt shoehorned in to spice up the tired formula. But yes, nowhere near as bad as part 4.

Oh well, it's all opinion.

I definitely prefer Hudson Hawk to Once a Thief, which is middling John Woo at best. Definitely a love it or hate it kind of film; you either get its humour and eccentricity or you don't.

Fair enough. I figured most complaints were about its crudity (though I'm sure that's since been surpassed). I found it surprisingly engaging. Sure, it's an update of old hat like Porky's but the script is sharper and funnier, IMHO. Even Sean William Scott is good here. The sequels were terrible, granted.

I think it was more along the lines of semen and cunnilingus jokes. ;)

Yeah, but look at those tits....

That's not what I took from it... but OK.

Pesci didn't annoy me until Part 4 (but even then was less annoying than Chris Rock). Stuart Wilson did a good job as a villain without gimmicks or cartoon henchman.

True that.

Lethal Weapon 3 is an enjoyable movie, I actually liked American Pie, beneath some of the crude jokes I thought it was rather sweet  :)
