The Best Comedy DVD In The World (Tsunami Relief) UK R2

Post by grim_tales »

I read this on Debate, this looks interesting, was wondering whether to pick this up or not (money does go to Unicef/the DEC after all).

In aid of the victims of the recent tragic tsunami, the UK DVD Industry has got together to release a unique comedy entitled The Best DVD Comedy In The World, due out on February 14th, with the money to go Unicef to help those who need it.

With some major league comedians, films and TV Companies involved the list of people involved is extremely impressive! As well as recent TV shows such as The Office and Little Britain, there is also classic TV shows such as Fawlty Towers and Monty Python included. From the world of film we have the likes of the Blues Brothers and Withnail and I and stand up comedians are represented with names such as Lily Savage, Jimmy Carr and Richard Pryor.

Whilst the disc is obviously just a selection of classic moments, the fact that almost all the money involved goes to help those suffering after recent events make this a truly unique DVD and well worth ten pounds of anybodys money!

Read on for the full press release including the list of comedy moments included and a look at the cover for the DVD

THE BEST COMEDY DVD IN THE WORLD!
"This is such a fantastic idea to raise funds for Unicef's Tsuanmi appeal, everyone should own a copy of this DVD, and show their support to the relief campaign" John Cleese
The UK Home Entertainment Industry comes together to raise money for Unicef UK's Tsunami Children's Appeal

UNPRECEDENTED: An average of £8 out of every £9.99 DVD sold will go straight to UNICEF!

London January 26th 2005. Imagine the best comedy DVD in the world ever! Well that's what happens when the full weight of the UK home entertainment industry comes together with UNICEF UK to try to raise at least £1 million for children affected by the tsunami. Released on February 14th 2005 at £9.99 - every single penny of profit will go to UNICEF.
This DVD features a hall of fame of the greatest comedy clips from the worlds of Stand Up, Television and Feature Film - all of which have been donated FREE by UK video labels.

To UNICEF, helping children smile, laugh and play again is an important part of their recovery. Getting children back into school and the routine of the classroom is another vital step. In Sri Lanka, Indonesia and across the Indian Ocean, UNICEF is working hard to return some normality to children's lives.

Clips featured include all the greats: Ricky Gervais, Little Britain, Richard Pryor, Phoenix Nights, Spaced, Black Books, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Wallace and Gromit, Joe Pasquale, Bo Selecta, and dozens more incredible clips of the best film and TV comedy that the world has ever seen!

David Bull, Executive Director of UNICEF UK said:

UNICEF has been totally overwhelmed by the huge public response to this emergency. The huge displays of generosity and support have been quite exceptional and will help us fulfil our promises to children of the Tsunami now and in the years to come. We'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to this quite unprecedented fundraising initiative, from the Revolver Entertainment team for coming up with the idea and making it happen to the British Video Industry, as well as the many designers, producers, artists and distributors involved in what promises to be a most hilarious product for such a seriously good cause.

Jane Horrocks

My heart breaks for the children who lost everything - family, homes, schools, whole villages - to the Tsunami. There's some comfort in knowing that UNICEF is looking out for these children, reuniting them with their families where they can, getting them back into school, taking care of their health, physical and mental. Rebuilding these young lives will require our support for many years to come.

Tony Hawks:

The devastating Tsunami is no laughing matter. But while you're sitting at home chuckling at the gags, rest assured you've done a seriously good thing in helping UNICEF put a smile back on the faces of at least some of the children whose lives were literally turned upside down by the giant waves.
The Best Comedy DVD in the World is the brainchild of leading Independent label Revolver Entertainment, who with the endorsement of the British Video Association, have produced the DVD. It's distributed by Pinnacle Vision. Labels that have donated clips include the BBC, Granada Ventures, 2 entertain, Aardman Animation, Columbia TriStar, VCI, Revolver Entertainment, Momentum Home Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment and Fremantle Media, Universal Pictures, Metrodome, Revelation Plaza and Odyssey.

Justin Marciano, Managing Director Revolver Entertainment

"We've all been deeply saddened by the huge devastation of the Tsunami in South Asia, and judging by the figures being reported I'm sure most people have already made some kind of contribution to the various appeals. However, with a disaster of this scale there is always room for a little more to help kids in the long term.

Such co-operation between the video industry's major players is simply unprecedented and we are overwhelmed by the fantastic response we've had. This is a really special project and a rare occurrence. Never again will you be able find all these comedians on one DVD."

British Video Association Director General Lavinia Carey:

"Whenever there's an important cause the video industry is fantastic at working together and delivering the goods. Everyone has been so moved by the disaster and so excited by Revolver Entertainment's idea that they're all looking to support this DVD in any way they can."
