Wait there, so as long as it's mono you're happy, despite the fact it sounds like shit?? (And has at least one major synch issue). I can't remember if it's mono or dual-mono or what, I have to use Pro Logic II anyway because my cinema receiver is dying (volume-wise, not quality).

Yeah, but a lot of audiophiles think all mono sounds like shit compared to 5.1.

I listen to headphones on an ancient stereo receiver. Don't know anything about this new-fangled Pro Logic stuff you kids are always yappin' 'bout........ :P

But if you list the BDs aural flaws I can check them against the DVD.

Also as you can see from the comp the BD image is much better (even if it is flawed as far as HD goes).

Yeah wait till you see the image on a large 1080p screen lol, the noise and compression artefacts are hideous.

I have the Arrow Blu-ray because it's the only version I've ever had, but I do wonder if a DVD would be better. It's a clearly nice master totally ruined with noise and compression artefacts. (Half the Italians' fault, half Arrow's).

You can see from my comparison that the DVD is worse than the BD. I know a film looks different in motion but the change would have to be phenomenal to upset the results of those caps. Mind you, that's only my Dutch DVD, I don't know how the Arrow DVD looks; but would it be any different to their BD given it's from the same master? I would assume it'd be the same, but with lower resolution and detail.

Yeah from caps it looks better but that's not the same as viewing it on a large 1080p screen where the problems are very apparent.

Well, I've ordered it anyways... and I'll see how it plays.

If I decide to keep it I'll be offloading my DVD.

Fuck. So I finally received Tenebrae on Blu. We know about the video noise situation so no point dwelling on that. But what hasn't been mentioned or properly confirmed before is that the English 2.0 track is actually a downmix (and a distorted one at that). The promised English mono is nowhere to be found. The tinny sounding Italian track appears to be genuine mono but who gives a fuck about that? I compared with my Dutch DVD and sure enough that contains the original English mono. Looks like I'll be returning this BD to the e-tailer. Bah.

I told you it's distorted! I said it really doesn't matter whether it's stereo or mono, because it sounds like shit!

I suspect that the French release is the most accurate.

Would be nice if Argento made his opinion known as to how the film is actually supposed to look.

For me the French is clearly the best. I don't know if it's accurate to the director's intentions, but it looks most pleasing to my eyes.

To be honest, I'm getting a bit tired of respecting directors' wishes. Who knows, maybe Argento wanted his film look like the Japanese or UK BD where people have red skin and all... I'll be happier watching the French BD.

(of course, this is all just speculation based on a handful of caps)
