Looks unlikely we'll be getting the theatrical cut

Let's hope, if he has to fuck with the picture, he only does it on his preferred Extended Cut. I really hope they fix the really dodgy CGI in that one.
I wouldn't be in any rush to upgrade this one. Very good film but my DVD is fine.

Great to hear the superior Theatrical Cut (which worked for 25 years!!) will be included, but...
Also Halloween 2010(!) Shit, we could all be dead by then!
After what he did to The French Connection, I'm a little concerned... and Warners have a very nasty habit of 'forgetting' to include mono tracks. The transfers, just completed in July, were supervised by both director William Friedkin and director of photography Owen Roizman.

To clarify I didn't expect there was but I don't understand Mark's comment, hence the post.

Re: The Exorcist announced for blu-ray
Thanks. I had no idea. I've no interest in Halloween, past Part 1. I had a passing interest in Halloween (2007) but enough to pay for it.
Did they really have to call it Halloween 2? I fucking hate how film studios over the past few years are re-writing history, just because a modern audience doesn't know any better.
p.s - I missed the Halloween 2010 bit.

The Exorcist
Pre-order at Play:
http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/1245 ... oduct.html
"Extended Director's Cut"
Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!
"Academy Award-winner Friedkin, who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements"
Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!
"2 hours and 12 minutes (approx)"
Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!
No mention of the theatrical cut.
I will NOT be buying this.
Looks like I'm stuck with my 1998 25th Anniversary (R1) DVD.
And even that only had a 5.1 remix...

Hopefully that means Remastered, not re-coloured.Markgway wrote:"Academy Award-winner Friedkin, who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements"

Re: The Exorcist
If the original cut comes with the original colors, I'll pick this immediately. If not, I'll try to hunt down the original dvd although it's very difficult to find.

Re: The Exorcist
Why wouldn't it? It's clearly "Theatrical Cut" and "Extended Cut". Which interestingly is now called the Extended Director's Cut. It seems Friedkin has had a change of mind.HungFist wrote:If the original cut comes with the original colors
I'd be surprised if it's not coming to Europe too.Markgway wrote:Wonder if the same edition will be out in the UK?

Re: The Exorcist
I think even the theatrical cut has been slightly tampered with on past DVD releases.
Only the old VHS and LD releases had the original theatrical presention without tweaks or remixes.

Re: The Exorcist
Some minor special effect(s) were added and the sound "upgraded" from mono to 5.1.
I wouldn't be surprised if ther BD offers the same edition.

Re: The Exorcist
How annoying. Oh yeah:
Original R1 DVD:
Soundtrack(s): English Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround or French Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono
Notes: This disc is now OOP / This is the original 1973 theatrical cut.
Replacement R1 SE DVD:
# Soundtrack(s): English Dolby Digital 5.1 or French Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono
Notes: This contains digitial enhancements and tweaks from the original theatrical version.
Further Notes:
The now-OOP original R1 pressing is the original theatrical cut with none of the enhancements or tweaks as seen in the 25th Anniversary Edition or Director's Cut. Purists may wish to seek out this version. Two tweaks are reported (these should be the only ones):
-Classic 1970s Warner Brothers logo at the beginning is replaced by the "modern" Warner Brothers logo.
-The "jump cut" when Karras expels the demon from his body at the end has been replaced by a subtle morph.
(This info from Vincent Pereira)
From DVD Compare.
For what it's worth (not much probably) at least the changes are't as galling as the Director's Cut. How weird to alter it though. Adding 5.1 is par for the course but include the Mono too!
What's a "subtle morph"?

Re: The Exorcist
That's the one I have. Hopefully Warners will include the original cut as per the original disc. The best thing about the 25 anniversary SE is that it contains (at least on the R1) the uncut feature-length version of Kermode's excellent Fear of God doc.Replacement R1 SE DVD:
# Soundtrack(s): English Dolby Digital 5.1 or French Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono
Notes: This contains digitial enhancements and tweaks from the original theatrical version.
