Have you found a HD Disc Review? Post it here!

Post by bradavon »

We tend to post HD Reviews in the "General Releases Thread!", they tend to then get lost. I thought we could post HD Reviews we find in their own thread.

I'll kick this thread off:

* Run Lola Run UK BD Review:

http://www.dvdactive.com/reviews/dvd/run-lola-run.html

* Unbreakable USA Region Free BD Review:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1312/unbreakable.html

* Juno USA Region A BD Review:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1397/juno.html

But it's a waste of everyone's time when there is already a website dedicated to it!

I don't mind having this thread around, TBH.
DVD-Basen isn't "required reading". It's not a bible.
Just because they post review links over there doesn't mean we can't post them over here.

And if you don't like this thread, then ignore it. :D
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Yep. We post review links anyway, what's the difference?

There is always a delay in them appearing on DVD Basen and that resource doesn't mean we cannot also post them here.

another Unbreakable review here-a very disappointing effort apparently (i haven't watched mine yet) the reviewer indicates it's not worth the upgrade but he should mention in his review that there is a $10 rebate coupon if you own the original dvd, making upgrading in the usa at least pretty cheap

Thanks Lourdes. It's good to see you've worked out the point of this thread. I already posted Juno btw.

That's a shame. I have read it looks better to the existing DVD though.

Might be best to post links here that aren't available at Basen then? That way the thread serves its own purpose.

Agreed and what I was intending the thread to be for.

It takes time for them to appear on DVD Basen and I'd like to read a review as soon as it's been posted online. It's easy to miss them too, so if members post reviews they find them it will be useful for all of us.

I've just checked and none of the reviews Salty or I have posted so far are on DVD Basen. I suspect Lourdes reviews aren't either.

Why are some members being so awkward about this thread? If you don't want to post in it or use it, don't. Don't spoilt it for the rest of us.

A posted a comparison with caps from AVS. Looks like a decent upgrade to me.

Thanks Salty.

I wish Fox would treat their back catalogue with more respect, particularly when it can be more popular than their new films.

Underworld: Extended Cut - German:

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1429/und ... ec_gr.html

Only DTS-HD HR (apparently sounding inferior) and No Extras!

Underworld: Theatrical Cut - Dutch:

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1430/underworld_nl.html

Only the Theatrical Cut but DTS-HD MA (apparently sounding equally as good as the BDs PCM) and most of the extras!

Despite the HD-DVDs looking (very) minutely more detail to the USA BD. I still say the BD is the way to go: Extended Cut, Lossless Audio plus all the extras.

Children of Men BD - Scandinavian:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1434/ch ... en_nr.html

Barebones
Only (640Kbps) DD5.1

I'd wait for the eventual Universal re-release now.

It's okay but nothing special, it had it's moments though. Cuarón's "Y tu mamá también" is significantly better. My review:

http://www.alexmccaffrey.com/Reviews/Ch ... %20Men.htm

I gave it 5 out of 10 in 2006. I may give it 6 today, but no more. For once Tom got it right about a film :D

Thanks Salty.

Passage to India:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1357/pa ... india.html

It's a pity the TrueHD is 5.1 only and no 2.0 has been offered too. It sounds like Sony have messed up the remix :(

The original single disc DVD has the 2.0 Stereo but probably hasn't been Remastered and has limited extras.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World BD:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/605/mas ... ander.html

Sigh, another distinctly average Fox catalogue title. It's so sad when Fox the DVD company is great but they're easily one of the worst HD companies out there. I'll still pick it up, to see for myself though.
