It's being posted in this months Art Rocker magazine (music but they've got a book and film page), in WH Smiths on the 15th of December (which also happens to be my birthday) . It's voluntary but will hopefully become a profession.

I haven't heard a single positive word about Sucker Punch apart from your review.

Yeah I'm quite baffled because I'm more sensitive than most to mindless action (Transformers 3 1/5, Quantum of Solace 1/5 because I couldn't see anything) yet this was really good

Generic genre sequel picks up exactly where the first one left off. Carpenter’s music is again well used and the cinematography is quite good. Gore is non-existent like in the original, however, newcomer director Rick Rosenthal lacks Carpenter’s chiller-skills. Jamie Lee Curtis and the always pleasing Donald Pleasence star.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (USA, 1982) – 3.5/5
This one’s a fascinating turn in horror movie history: a sequel that entirely abandons what the series was identified with: Michael Myers, and the famous theme music. Instead, it’s a Halloween themed horror tale – and quite an original one. While not necessarily a classic it’s got enough atmosphere, strong soundtrack, and a captivating (if amusingly over the top) mystery storyline to make it a small gem.

btw, how the hell is this film’s IMDb rating 3.9/10. I’ne never met a person who didn’t speak highly of Halloween 3...

From all the morons who can't get over the fact it's not about Michael Myers (who died at the end of the second film). Me and my friend agree that it is 'THE MOST UNDERRATED FILM OF ALL TIME' haha.

...All of which was pretty gratuitous.

I feel a bit for director Rick Rosenthal who TRIED to make an atmospheric suspenser in the vein of the original and was overruled by the studio who employed - of all people - John Carpenter to rehash his work. I still think the film works but the gore was needless. I'd be interested to a see a proper director's cut.

Knowing (2009-USA-Australia-UK) **½

Ambitious sci-fi thriller isn't a classic by any stretch but the sincere storytelling is admirable.

The doomsday ending is truly original - if totally and utterly depressing. Not a film to watch when you're on a downer.

May have to check it out, when I saw the trailer it looked like a bog standard family film but I was shocked by who the director was And the story features Georges Melées (sp?), one of the pioneering wizards in very early cinema.

Also I opted for the 2D screening and I'm so glad I did, the film was beautiful and the dimming glasses would have fucked that up - there was plenty of dimensionality as well.
