I'm currently checking out couple of Aoi Miyazaki Movies, so I'm hugely interested in this one. I know, the Japanese DVD is probably the best version to get, and it even got english subtitles, but currently it's way too expensive for me, since I don't even know for sure if I'm gonna like it in the first place. HK-Flix has a much cheaper Malaysia-Release in stock, though, so I wanted to ask, if that would be a reasonable surrogate. Thanks.
I already made one extremely good experience with a Malaysia-Release (the "Life"-Boxset), and one rather bad ("Sukiyaki Western Django" with fucked up subtitles).
I don't know anything about Malaysia dvds. I wonder how legit they dvds are in general... But is there a KR version? I think there may be. That would almost certainly be a R2J port. The R2J comes in a beautiful package, though (unless that was a first press limitation)
The film is a bit of a mixed bag. The first 50 minutes is some of the most perfect film making of the 2000's. The second half is lesser, but not bad at all. Definitely do get the film, though. Miyazaki is fantastic in it.
I should watch the film again. I haven't seen it since the R2J was released.
Thanks. I thought the Korean release was OOP, but I just saw, that yesasia still has it in stock. It's a bit cheaper than the Japanese DVD, so I think I'll get it after all. The caps you've posted look strikingly beautiful.

Hiroshi Ishikawa's first movie, Tokyo Sora (2002), is even better than Su-ki-da. Some people don't like the second half, and while it's true it isn't as good as the first it's still quite terrific. The film also features one of my favourite kissing scenes of all time. Interestingly, another one is in Su-ki-da. Easily one of my favourite japanese films from the past 10 years.

This thread has a bad effect on one's personal economy. I just ordered Ishikawa's short movie Kimi no yubisaki, starring the beautiful Horikita Maki and Kuroki Meisa.
Real life friends Horikita Maki and Kuroki Meisa star in a 17 minute short film by Tokyo.Sora director Ishikawa Hiroshi. It’s more of an idol product for the two leads – who also releases a photobook together – than an Ishikawa movie, but it does have very nice locations and some beautiful music. The director’s attempt to bring more liveliness into the image by keeping the camera in constant light move is a bit distracting, though. After viewing the film it would be advisable to watch the 3 minute short version which actually works better, at least after seeing the story first in long form.
The dvd extras consist of a making of (14 min), interviews (17 min) and 'short version' of the film (3 min).
I can't really explain why, but because of the role she's played in "Heavenly Forest" I now despise Meisa Kuroki. Somehow in my imagination she and her character became one and now I'm unable to differentiate. Sounds stupid and immature, I know, but that's really how I feel about her; well it's not like she was an evil person and all, she was just competition, but seeing the main guy going all crazy about her, while ignoring Aoi Miyazaki almost completely, really annoyed the heck out of me. I'm not exactly happy about this, since Meisa Kuroki actually IS an exceptional beauty.
