Yeah the HD-DVD is pretty poor. I skipped it so it looks like I made a good decision. Great film by the way.

The HD-DVD is by far the best the film has ever look. I'm glad I have it. But I think most of the complaints came from the slight edge enhancement and definition not being the greatest. But calling this the worst HD picture ever isn't right and it truly is a blessing for fans like us.

A Blu-ray mastered in 1080P from the Special Edition transfer is also due out so some may want to get that version. It contains all the special features from the Special Edition DVD.

Okay, thanks. I'll wait for the DD. I know that Hard-Boiled was an awful Criterion with terrible picture and I guess it makes sense that The Killer is too because they were both released at the same time.

No, I've never seen it and have only heard the name and people have told me it is a good film by Kurosawa. I just wasn't sure if this was the same movie they were talking about, I kind of forgot the title but when I saw this in the database it made me remember it. I assume it is a Kurosawa film then...

John Woo's The Killer

Does anyone know, besides the OOP Criterion, if this is even available in region one? I've been trying to track this down and with the rate it's going I might just order a used Criterion.

The menu cap of the 10th anniversary DVD is supposed to be 16x9 but I messed the ratio up on that. I'll probably fix it soon and have bit-rate meter captures up too. :bom:

I finally got around to watching the Blu-ray of this. The transfer is definately the same one from the "Book of the Dead" edition. It looks pretty good but I had trouble with the heavy DNR they used. If it wasn't for the grain reduction it would have been a great picture instead of a decent picture.
