Quite impressive style of horror for its time, it'd be nice if Masters of Cinema picked this one up.
This is one of those films that bored me witless as a kid, but now I love. Simone Simon is so tasty!

The sequel is my fave of the Val Lewton horrors, though it is so odd a horror, I wouldn't be surprised if 40's horror patrons rioted!

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - 3/5
Good but not as good as my favourite, Mission: Impossible II.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - 4/5
Fincher has done it again. Loved the music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Spotted the not-so-sly nod to Nine Inch Nails. :)

I'm seeing it later. You and I must be the only ones who think MI2 is the best.

Jindabyne (2006): 3/5

Slow moving but well acted movie about a group of men who go in the Australian outback, and find an Aboriginal girl's body in the river... except they don't tell the police. This brings them into conflict with each other and their family. Its more of a character piece I think, shame that none of the characters seem very likeable.
The scene with the girl's funeral at the end was moving though :(

The end of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor: 1/5

Crap, with really bad CGI.

Alien Resurrection: Special Edition 6 out of 10

The first 90 minutes are good. Obviously not up there with Alien 1-3 but decent enough, the underwater sequence is great. It then goes completely down the toilet. The baby monster is still awful, awful, awful. The end is just dreadful. What the fuck were they thinking? It's not even an Alien. The extra end coda in the Special Edition adds nothing too..

Alien (either cut, I couldn't tell much difference), Aliens: Theatrical Cut (the extra Newt stuff is just wrong in the Special Edition) and Alien 3: Workprint are excellent but Alien Resurrection is definitely a let down. There's 3 Alien films as far as I'm concerned. It should've also been called Aliens Resurrection too.

Windtalkers (2002-USA) **

Serviceable WW2 drama; lots of bloodshed, but not as profound as it thinks it is.

The xenomorph in the first film was humanoid because it had come out of a human, so it makes sense that when Ripley mates with a xenomorph, the offspring is even more humanoid (eyes, for instance).

Sure it make sense, that's not my beef. It's still no bloody Alien. There's no mating going on btw.

Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol: 4 out of 10

What a load of nonsense. From Iron Giant, The Incredibles to this? All that was missing is a white furry cat. MI4 the Moonraker of MI movies. Tom Cruise I expect better! Easily the worst.

I know it's supposed to be comedic but a bloody nuclear weapon wouldn't just bounce of a building, land in a lake and NOT explode. Good use of great acting talent in Tom Wilkinson too. The Dubai skyscraper scene was good though.

Whut? Sigourney Weaver wanted it to happen since like the first or second film, and then she finally got her wish with the fourth, did you miss the bit where she was writhing around?

You weren't commenting on MI2 though!

And because it is. Iron Monkey agrees too. It's also one of Woo's best American films. I also like Mission Impossible, it's the only one that's anything like the TV series and remotely a spy thriller. MI3 was pretty good I guess. Only MI2 is a keeper. I even own it on HD-DVD (with it's higher res. audio over the Blu-ray).

Besides you like MI4 so obviously haven't got a clue :D. Dude it's awful. We all said when we left it reminded us of the Brosnan era of Bond films. I'd say it's like Die Another Day, which really isn't a compliment. Lets face it Mission Impossible, Bond and Bourne are totally unrealistic but there's a line between being unrealistic and plain ridiculous. MI4 well and truly crossed it, as did Die Another Day.

Isn't that considered the best Roger Moore Bond film? I seem to recall it being the most serious and probably best IMO.

WTF are you smoking gas? The ripley clone was created with the pregnant queen inside her, there was no mating going on. :icon_suspect:
