Haven't you seen that film every year since it was released? I'm sure you've reviewed it many times before.

I still have post traumatic stress disorder from THE SNOWMAN. WHEN THE WIND BLOWS is a picnic by comparison!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (USA, 2011) – 3.5/5
Not having seen the Swedish adaptation or read the novel, this turned out quite solid, except for the horrible opening credits sequence. A well directed story film with good characters and excellent performances by Daniel Craig and especially Rooney Mara (who is actually quite hot in the film). It does take a little while to get used to a Sweden where everyone speaks English with random European accents, though (plus a few words of Swedish here and there for some strange reason!).
+ Rapid Fire (USA, 1992) in about 40 minutes with fast forwarding and scene skipping. Not too bad seemingly – could work on a film festival in an early morning shot – but I had more important things to do than sit through this at home. Has a semi-nice 90’s wibe, though.

I'd forgotten Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was still set in England. Still Fincher is a solid director. Like you Hung I'm going unusually in having not seen the original first. It's out boxing day here.

The Lincoln Lawyer (2011-USA) **½
Not bad courtroom thriller; doesn't quite live up to its potential though.

WHEN THE WIND BLOWS (1986)
Moving adaptation of Raymond Biggs's comic book, though somewhat less disturbing than said book. The animation is a bit too show-offy (3d models and early CGI alongside cel animation) and the pop songs remove the intimacy of the dramatic scenes, but it's still a brave attempt.

Primal Fear 2/5 Somehow this film had slipped under my radar,i'd heard good things about it but save for a superb Ed Norton performance i found it rather routine.

A Stoker (Russia, 2010) – 3.5/5
Aleksey Balabanov is Russia’s Takeshi Kitano! His 1990’s set crime films are violent, minimalist, and set to sarcastic pop-soundtracks. A Stoker is another addition to this line up. The title character is “the hero of the Soviet Union” – an Afghanistan veteran who went a bit senile after being wounded in the war, and now works as a stoker. His war time buddies, now local gangster, keep bringing him dead guys to burn – “they were all bad people, the word will be better without them”, they always tell him. It’s early 90’s Saint Petersburg, people keep going up in ashes, and the pop music never stops. Based on an 18 page screenplay – this is truly director’s cinema!

Our Day Will Come (France, 2010) – 3.5/5
Vincent Cassel stars as a psychopathic shrink in a ballsy road movie. The pitch black drama/comedy follows a bullied, angry and unstable young man who is joined by a manipulative and plain insane psychiatrist on his road trip through France. Sex, violence and social commentary with a brave ending that will probably anger a few moralist viewers.

That's why it's liked. It's no keeper but I'd rate it a bit higher, 3 out of 5.saltysam wrote:Primal Fear 2/5 Somehow this film had slipped under my radar,i'd heard good things about it but save for a superb Ed Norton performance i found it rather routine.

Hard Luck (2006-USA) **½
Offbeat crime thriller with Tarantinoesque pretentions; better than the usual DTV fodder.

Cat People (1942) - 3.5/5
Quite impressive style of horror for its time, it'd be nice if Masters of Cinema picked this one up.

apollo 18
horror on the moon
3 out of 5 stars
contagion
not so exciting thriller with many big names (actors) in it
3 out of 5 stars
MI ghost protocol
Has some nice action scenes but the story is too simple.
I hope this will be the last part of this series.
