Well, it was to be expected when they used the Atlas source.

I'd prefer the HK credits if they were available.

I think they simply use English prints because they're stored in better conditions. I remember seeing Miramax's Tiger on the Beat on TV and instead of the original title card with the tiger logo, there was a crude red screen with generic white lettering. It was lame. But the transfer was great.

Perhaps, but I doubt it was thought about.

Interesting. Of course, HKL did a new one with new lettering to correct 'Tiger On Beat' to 'Tiger On The Beat', but retained the majority of the elements.
But the transfer was great.
I would love to see that and other stuff they did (a DVD-R as I'm in the UK) :D . HKL's was a really good presentation, but I'm sure Miramax will be better (other than not removing print damage?).

I thought HKLs Tiger on the Beat title card was red as well?

They both are, it's just the title was digitally altered - changing the font and adding "The".

On the Miramax version, right before the tiger animation finishes, it disappears and is replaced with a generic red screen with large shitty white English font (much like the English print of Hard-Boiled). I prefer what HKL did.

Are you sure it's not the international title card (as opposed to anything Miramax did)?

It used shitty Golden Harvest style font so I believe it is the inernational print.

Back to The Killer...

How does the mono sound?

BTW. This title is getting dogs abuse at the DD forum. So much so that the user comments part has been disabled!

Just watched it.sounded good to me but i'm no expert. Transfer was a little inconsistent but it's taken from a clean source and is a definite upgrade from the dvd.it's far,far from perfect but far from the disaster some believe. while 1080i is stupid,i wager the majority of people moaning about it wouldn't know the difference between an i and a p image if it jumped up and bit them on the ass. For all that this is such an iconic movie that anything less than perfection was always going to meet with outrage.

As long as it's a clear step-up from the HKL (credits aside) I'd maybe get this if it was cheap or in a trade. I'd have gone over the odds for a 1080p 24fps Chinese credits print. Ah well.

Here are a few comparison shots from EMS R2 DVD which is superior in quality to HKL.

The EMS disc looks a smidgen sharper than the Blu Ray!

Something's awry.

Not really. They were produced by different studios. Do we know for sure it's the source of the BD?

Regardless a DVD shouldn't be sharper than a BD.

Thanks Salty. I cannot see much in it between those captures. If I was a big as fan as you guys I'd get the Blu-ray (it looks pretty good to me) but as good as the film is (and it is very good) I'm happy with my HKL. It's not one I'd rush to upgrade.

Of course but I can see the real-world reasons why it happens. Sharpness isn't everything too.

Interesting - E-M-S has a lot more information horizontally, but DD has a bit more vertically.

Apologize if this has been addressed but is there a DD DVD release of The Killer?
