How much is cut? The UK DVD will be fine (as I'm interested in checking it out).

16 seconds of censorship is still 16 seconds too many...
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Asian cinema certainly has a fetish for horse-falls.

probably more like western cinema having anti-fetish horse-falls. If you're making a historical war movie, or really any action scene with horses, it makes quite a bit of sense to have horse-falls includes. Kinda like car chase movies featuring parts where cars crash...

More like they don't give a shit. Mel Gibson managed horse falls without actually causing any harm to horses. There's no excuse for it.
Besides it's almost as every Asian epic has to have a horse fall. Really?

Maybe but it's still not "a lot".Yi-Long wrote:16 seconds of censorship is still 16 seconds too many...

Re: Cine-Asia releasing DD titles in the UK..
It's illegal horse falls, Hung. Not just any time a horse goes over. If a wire is used to trip the horse so that it goes head first (with the potential of breaking its neck) then it's illegal to screen that footage in the UK. It's not a BBFC whim. If the company can prove the fall was done safely without wires then the footage will not be cut. Braveheart was able to show proof of how it's falls were done safely. It's hard to believe in 2010 anyone is still employing such dangerous methods but the sheer number of Chinese films cut in the last few years tells us that it's still common practice over there. The law was implimented in 1937 primarily because of the Charge of the Light Brigade in which horse trippings killed many horses.

The Chinese don't have animal rights do they? I'm sure Morrissey said something controversial about it recently, saying they're a lesser species because of it.

Re: Cine-Asia releasing DD titles in the UK..
I'd be very surprised if China has any animal rights laws. They don't even have particularly good human rights laws. Just look how they treat their circus animals.
I imagine it's simply easier to cause a horse to fall over dangerously than take precautions. I imagine they think "oh well, we'll just get another horse". If it dies or "that'll cost money to replace"
. The most fustrating part being, the animal is suffering when it is so easy to achieve the same result. Without suffering!

Re: Cine-Asia releasing DD titles in the UK..
Zavvi are selling Cine Asia's Tai Chi Master DVD for £4.85.
Is there any reason to go for the Dragon Dynasty BD instead of this (assuming price isnt a factor)?
I believe the releases are identical content-wise so it would be down to how much the 1080p transfer improves the picture, right?
I checked my Universe DVD recently and whilst it's the original HK version with subtitles it's also unwatchable with shitty image and cheesy remix.
Comments?

Still, check Play.com. Some of the titles on offer at Zavvi are even cheaper there at Play.Markgway wrote:Zavvi are selling Cine Asia's Tai Chi Master DVD for £4.85.

Probably not but a 1080p BD would at least imply a better treated disc overall, so the 1080i one maybe inferior in other areas too. If price was equal/almost equal I'd also get the 1080p one.romerojpg wrote:Because you can tell the difference between i and p

Mark is talking about buying the dvd ahead of the BD so i & p aren't really relevant herebradavon wrote: Probably not but a 1080p BD would at least imply a better treated disc overall, so the 1080i one maybe inferior in other areas too. If price was equal/almost equal I'd also get the 1080p one.

If the BD is 1080p I might just wait for it to drop in price again.
Thought about getting it at Xmas but there was offer stuff I wanted more.
Shame that such a great Kung Fu film doesn't have a good version.
But it's DD or nothing these days...

And I'll chose being able to watch the film, over not being able to watch it.
@ Salty: Got it. If the BDs out, I wouldn't even look a the DVD.
