I'll get this. It's great IMO but those German BDs cost a bomb. I went for Leon as well it's Leon but the rest I can wait.

Got the check disc today and I'll be working my way through all the Besson titles so it'll be a few days before I review Leon, but first impressions are postive, transfer seems solid and I think the audio is DTS-HD MA although I wasn't paying attention. The Theatrical Cut is also choosable from the Extras menu.gasteropod wrote:The UK BD of Leon will contain the theatrical and director's cut. Let's hope Optimum don't fuck it up.

I watched La Dernier Combat earlier and that looked pretty good, no extras on that one mind.

Are you able to check if it's 1080p or 1080i? Optimum's BD of 'Brick' is 1080i 25fps according to DVD Beaver.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
Brick was just a blip on the radar from what I can see
all the other titles were right and many had effort put into the discs.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
What are you talking about? They didn't even release 'They Live' because the check disc got such a bad review on DVD Times or DVD Active, and their BD of 'Escape from New York' is apparently an upscale. Not to mention the discs with the sound pitch problems and whatnot, Optimum are shite. I'll still never forgive them for the worst DVD encoding ever on Spirited Away where she's running through the hedges, fucking dicks.

I never knew that was the actual reason.gasteropod wrote:What are you talking about? They didn't even release 'They Live' because the check disc got such a bad review on DVD Times or DVD Active.
You can blame Studio Canal for that. Sure Optimum should've rejected them but Studio Canal are to blame.gasteropod wrote:Not to mention the discs with the sound pitch problems
I've not seen the UK DVD but the Madman R4 is an NTSC-PAL messs. R1 all the way.gasteropod wrote:and whatnot, Optimum are shite. I'll still never forgive them for the worst DVD encoding ever on Spirited Away where she's running through the hedges, fucking dicks.
As you say Optimum have released "plenty" of very good BDs and HDs. More than their rubbish ones.romerojpg wrote:I own plenty of the great/perfect discs.
It should be. My German BD does.Shingster wrote:Got the check disc today and I'll be working my way through all the Besson titles so it'll be a few days before I review Leon, but first impressions are postive, transfer seems solid and I think the audio is DTS-HD MA although I wasn't paying attention.
This is probably hard for you to check (as French PCM 2.0 is only included) but can you check if Nikita has subtitles and not dubtitles? I'll probably plump for the (barebones) Sony USA BD as it has French TrueHD 5.1 but it's nice to know. I'm pretty sure "only" the original USA BD had dubtitles and the SE has subtitles.

'Red Heat' Sizzles on Blu-ray:
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/3284
One of Arnie's best comes to BD. I'll likely stick with my DVD though, even though it has ropey picture quality (but will do).

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
You said earlier in this thread you thought the audio on the German was DTS-HR, which matches up with info posted on the AVSforums. A chap over there has posted BDinfo on the French and German releases and the Optimum transfer has a slightly higher disc capacity than the French (which has a DTS-HD MA track), but a lower disc capacity than the German.bradavon wrote:It should be. I'll get back to you about Nikita in a day or two.

Didn't I say I thought it had DTS-HD HR? Actually I'm not sure, ignore me.

Well, apparently the German release does only have DTS-HR.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
The back cover says DTS-HD which usually means HR. My Player just says DTS-HD for both and I cannot decode either so my Amp is no good. TBH DD Plus vs. TrueHD is a big jump but I'm always dubious how different DTS-HD HR is from DTS-HD MA. Like I said I cannot play either though. I'm sure DTS-HD HR has a lot higher bitrate than DD Plus.
I definitely wouldn't upgrade to just get DTS-HD MA (but may do for TrueHD over DD Plus).

I've now watched Nikita, they're proper subtitles.bradavon wrote:This is probably hard for you to check (as French PCM 2.0 is only included) but can you check if Nikita has subtitles and not dubtitles?
