Ok before Chenlung or someone comes along and tells me the frames are a millisecond off or something i know, but i got the DD this morning and am away most of the weekend so i thought i'd throw up a quick comparison up which might be useful 8) note the DD is the longer version of the movie.

I think HKL is a case of someone - either at HKL or Media Asia - goofing in the telecining. However, someone also knew about it because the transfer was further squished to 2.27:1, the theatrical trailer was cropped to 1.85:1 and the box actually says 2.35:1 - most HKL's at that time said 16:9 regardless of ratio.
Magnficent Warriors was another transfer with the same cropping issue but at least they left it unsquished - bizzarly, HKL's self-produced promotional trailer for MW IS 2.35:1
It's alarming how bad the quality control at HKL was at that time. By 2003, their titles were fewer in number and less exciting but the transfers were better.

Hard to say if the image was pinkified, but believe it or not, it seems to be fine. Annoying green line at the side however. It's got a dodgy presentation of the Japanese version instead of the preferred HK version - a big negative for me .
The original trailer on the HKL DVD isn't cropped, it's just incorrectly squished into 1:78:1.

Well...
I wouldn't mind if all 4 versions: Hong Kong, Taiwanese, English and Japanese were presented on Blu-Ray Disc(s) but Japanese with the incorrect ending? It's really off-putting that it's just 'another' version. I hate these situations, such a waste and it's really demotivating.
How's the mono?

I see the almost exact same amount of EE on both discs (except maybe the last cap).tom2681 wrote:*Adding IVL caps*
DD is edge-enhanced and pinkified. Avoid.
IVL is still the best IMO.
And since IVL is out of sync as usual, I'd recommend to avoit it. Unless of course if DD is also out of sync.
I might get the DD's and try to live with IVL's part III till someone gives us a decent release. I was thinking about the Mega Star disc but I hear the audio isn't so great. Can anyone confirm???

Couldn't care less about HD. So many great films haven't even been released on dvd yet. And I can't imagine HD doing any good audio wise.mike dk wrote:The IVL is surely the best one so no need to "up-grade".
In fact I'm not buying any standard DVD's anymore, because in a very short time everything will be released in High Definition and will make standard DVD's look like crap. So why waste your money ?
