Army of Darkness: R1 vs. Anchorbay R1 vs. HD-DVD(SD version)

Post by captainjoe »

Army of Darkness

Top: Anchorbay R1
Middle: HD-DVD (standard definition side B)
Bottom: Universal R1

I feel I should add that all the caps except for the HD-DVD SD version are from DVDBeaver.

Hail to the King, baby. 8)

Oh, and I think the second set looks the cleanest.

It has good extras and is complete but from what I hear the HD has the best picture. Not sure though, you could be correct. :|

Aside from the moon it looks good. I don't think the actual HD version looks that bad though.

While I think the HD wins this one, it definitely looks like a pretty shit HD release! There's little increas in detail over the DVD releases and just look at the EE present in that shot of the castle!

FYI the HD-DVD release is a combo disc, the caps were taken from the SD-DVD side. The EE could've been applied when the SD transfer was being downscaled from the HD master.

The SD-DVD from the HD-DVD is by far the best. Would be great to see how the HD print looks like compared to the SD-DVD.

The R3HK DC has similar colours to the HD-DVD IIRC.

Well, I personally don't think western actors should look yellow... but maybe that's just me...

Of course they should look yellow! Just as Chinese should look pink and Japanese should be red. :D
