This is almost tempting.
I'd love to see a couple of subtitle samples.

HKL's / IVL's subs were quite poor.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Hmmm. It could've looked better considering it's a DD release but oh well. It's a Fortune Star print alright. Am I correct in thinking it's a one disc affair? Amazon has it listed as a 2 disc set.

Looks interesting, I might triple-dip (!) for the Bey/Ratner commentary.

If your idea of awfully cropped is a little off the bottom and a little off the sides, then you seriously need to re-evaluate your definitions.

I'm actually shocked at how close these images are, the DD is the clear winner but considering how much grief the HKL PS transfer gets, I was expecting the FS remastered print to be far, far superior. I guess it's PS2 that was the real mess.

looks very cropped to me but hey i'm no expert :D HKL looks darker as well.Never realised anyone had much of an issue with the HKL PS transfer, always thought PS2 was the problem :?

I've always wondered why HKL's PS2 was so badly cropped. Was it because those greedy bastards at Media Asia purposely gave them a piss-poor DVD master?

I think the fleshtones in the DD are too pink. This is an Asian film! IVL for me. (Which I own).

True. The IVL looks better but I wouldn't get the DD for the picture quality anyways. I just want the extras. that's where the disc really shines.

DD is excessively grainy, suffers from blooming (look at the VHS in the second cap), but is better framed, unsqueezed, and slightly sharper. Not the massive improvement I was hoping for... if I buy this it will depend on the original mono quality and the subtitles. Sam could you gives us info on the latter two issues please, thx.

Edit: IVL has the best image of the three, but OOS sound. Does anyone know if Joy Sales have fixed the sync for their reissue?

Edit: My mistake. It's the Project A set they've reissued. I guess the Police Story set will be soon.

Yuck the DD is a mess.

The HKL is way better but the IVL is way better again. Personally I'd get the cheap as chips HKL for the extras and IVL for the film, screw the DD.

Not that I'd get any version as both PS and PS2 are very overrated, decent enough but no more. Not keepers (IMO).

But then if you guys think the PS IVL is OOS fair enough. I doubt I'd notice it. It's not like Eastern Condors where many people seem to notice it.

I can understand why people own 2 versions of the same film but why 3???

Out of interest why? Surely the HKL Bey one is fine.

They're re-issuing it? Are any others coming? I'd love a PS3 separate DVD.

p.s - Thanks Salty.

I don't want to ask too much of you, Salty, but...
I'd like to have a specific subtitle sample:

Image

Just before this scene, when Jackie is walking on the bridge with Brigitte, the conversation goes like this:
-I'm just concerned for your safety.
-I don't need your help, you fool !

In the Megastar subs, she calls him a parasite (which is much funnier).

What does she say to him in the new DD subtitles ?
Thanks. :)

I might quadruple-dip if the subs have been improved.

@Sam:

24th minute (PAL).
~26th minute NTSC.

Brigitte and Jackie crossing a bridge.
He says something to her, she turns back and answers.

Thanks in advance. :)

EDIT: The screenshot I've given you is for reference only. The exchange I'm interested in happens a few shots before that.

There's such a thing as a non-dodgy VCD? Okay there is but they're very rare.
