It looks like the Joy Sales edition is interlaced to me.
TH-42PX80 | DMP-BD50 (MR BD & DVD) | SA-XR55 | SB-TP20 | XBox 360 Slim 250GB | XBox (XBMC, 160GB) | Zotac XBMC HTPC | Gaming PC | 8TB Media Server

I'd expect both are interlaced as budget releases.

Well it still sucks for those of us with progressive displays. :(

I'll add a few pics from the TF1 edition later.

@Mark:
Your Universe caps are slightly vertically stretched (720x542 instead of 720x540).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

The TF1 picture is based on an english print (titles are different), but no footage is missing.

Overall I prefer the look of the french disc (less "rough", not much edge enhancement), but it doesn't exactly look great.

The movie is not that recent - its 14/15 years old Sam.

You would :D (you always do).

Both look pretty awful to me but yes the Joy Sales looks better.

Yeah, but a film made in the '90s should look better than that!

hey,

youse guys forgot it's HK cinema we're talking about? ;) Even 90s movies weren't particularly extremely well looked after.

There is a line you draw when collecting this, that is about settling with what you've got and at times not. Image-wise, I can suffer through a lot for instance.

542 was as close as I could get for the letterboxed version. I can't imagine the difference should be as visible as it appears though. Could the Universe be stretched anyways? Maybe you could check that out yourself?

I've added in the TF1 caps.

French release is easily the best image-wise.

But without English subs I'd stick with Joy Sales.

Someone at the ADVDG might be doing Miramax caps so I'll add them if and when available.

Is this the charity film that was co-directed by Tsui Hark & Ringo Lam?

The Joy Sales is edge-enhancement overloaded and the colours are off (orange instead of yellow)

Miramax looks better because they are lucky bastards when it comes to image  . They do GREAT image restorations at times (Swordsman 2 looks extremely clean) but aside, it sucks.
