The Killer: R2DE vs R1 vs R2UK vs R2FR vs R2Nordic vs R3HK

Post by tom2681 »

Note: The french HK Vidéo DVD contains both the theatrical cut and the extended taiwanese cut.
French subs are removable for the taiwanese cut (which contains burnt-in english subs).

The french transfer is quite dirty, but it's supposed to be the sharpest.
Fox Lorber: Soft picture and contrast boosting from Hell.

Despite some cropping, the HKV is still the best (so far).

EDIT:
Wow. Even though the IVL is sharper in some shots, the HK Vidéo disc still has the upper hand in others.

Overall I'd say:
1. IVL
2. HK Vidéo

3. HKL
4. HK Vidéo Extended

4. Everything Else.

Neither looks great but the Frenchie has it. How about the IVL and HKL?

That's a shame. Jerry Springer: The Musical is supposed to be quite good.

Some HKL or IVL might be good.
Let's see what Eva has in stock.

None of those posted so far look good to me.

The French is the best of a sloppy bunch.

I'd be surprised if the HKL isn't better... doesn't have much to beat.

You know, out of all the ones posted by now, the German one has the most colour in it, doesn't it?

It's still bad, though. The HKL has great video quality. Unfortunately, the audio is kinda winching/cranking.

Wasn't the French DVD of the Taiwan cut taken from a workprint?

I don't really understand why everyone says the HKL is so great picture-wise. From what I can remember (its a while since I saw it) it was a mess in a few scenes with too much digital noise & massive compression artefacts.

I remember this from when I watched it on my 24" widescreen. I dread to think what its going to look like on my new 37" plasma. :(

The HKL is cropped and blurry (just like many of their 2002-2003 releases), but it might have better brightness and contrast levels than the HK Vidéo.

As expected, it's a close battle between HK Vidéo and IVL.
HKL is blurry as hell.
