OK I've watched the Donner cut now and it's much better than the awful theatrical version, I give the Donner cut 3/5. Man of Steel is definitely the best, though.

Oh yeah, last night I watched A Good Day to Die Hard - 0/5

One of the worst films I've ever seen, a complete failure in every way, I don't understand how its producers let it happen. And wtf is with McClane constantly shouting 'I'm on vacation' when he clearly isn't on vacation (rhetorical question, I know why they did it), worst of all when it's randomly dubbed in near the end when a helicopter's shooting at him, so embarrassing.

Yeah, easily the worst of the Die Hard series, though I rated it a bit higher than you (**).

Apparently the so-called 'harder cut' completely removes any trace of Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Like it was her fault the movie was so poor!?!

 Yep, that's the version I watched and she wasn't in it at all, was just referred to once. I'm surprised you rated it 2 stars!

Pacific Rim - 3.5/5

I enjoyed it, great lighting, costumes, production design, humour. But as usual with del Toro's films, I disliked the creature design, and also the camera-work during the action made it hard to see what was going on.

Appreciate the feedback

Superman the Movie (last saw the slightly shoddy extended cut) is a 4/5

The theatrical is slightly tighter from memory. Haven't seen MOS yet, but will before long.

Battle Creek Brawl 2/5 Jackie Chan's first Starring role in a usa production is a lukewarm introduction to western audiences and far removed from the asian classics he was producing at the time.Made by a number of the same crew from ETD it's a passable enough 90 minutes with a Lalo Schifrin theme tune you'll have trouble getting out of your head..unfortunately the new USA blu-ray is rough as hell..though looking at my old hkl immediately afterwards it is an improvement.

Just the regular cut. Seen the Japanese version of the film but it doesn't really make the film any better. Personally I like the black and white switch and the 'blink back to colour' :)

The editing of the action sequences is better in the "uncut" Japanese version. Can't say the whole Black & White/Colour thing makes much difference, but the Blue leaves fight sequence undoubtedly flows better in the Japanese version.

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter 2/5 intriguing concept is entertaining enough but marred by an overuse of cgi in a lot of the action scenes

Slither - 3/5

Pretty funny, good gruesome effects that recall The Fly and The Thing.

The Wicker Man (2006) - 1/5

Worth watching just to have a laugh at Nic Cage, but otherwise it is a pretty awful film. It's not as bad as A Good Day to Die Hard though.

By the way, they've finally discovered the original cut of the original Wicker Man and it's coming out on Blu-ray in October, isn't that wonderful?

Yeah, I'm not a massive fan of the film (7/10) but definitely want to see the full cut. It's a Zavvi exclusive steelbook for the time being, limited to 4000 copies: http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/the-wicker ... 93623.html

Nice artwork, and will probably be able to sell on for a profit anyway so a no-brainer really.

I though there was already Theatrical and Extended versions on DVD. So this is a third version? What's the story behind all the different cuts?

edit: I self-educated myself
- http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=583715

But I'm still wondering where did the material for the "Director's Cut" come from? Is it essentially the same or different version than what was now discovered?

I think the print just discovered is even longer, but even if it isn't, at least it means the film will no longer be switching quality from scene to scene like that DVD does.

WTF I didnt know this, have they discovered more footage? I thought the longest version of The Wicker Man available was already on the DVD which looks like shit (understandably), I know a 'worldwide search' was being done apparently but didnt know what had turned up (it appears nothing so far), could be interesting.
I have the Zavvi Steelbook on order BTW (which interestingly is now called 'The Final Cut) :?
