I completely forgot to mention the booklet that comes with HMV 2-Disc Blu-ray as we were only sent the check discs. Updated the review now.

Wowwowwow. Eva 2 features the theme tune from The Man Who Stole the Sun, which, as I've stated a million times, is just about the most intetesting movie to come out in Asia in the 1970's (and in case there's still some sad little soul who hasn't seen The Man Who Stole the Sun, it's a film about a high school chemistery teacher who breaks into a powerplant, steals plutonioum, and starts building his own atomic bomb. Directed by the near-legendary Kazuhiko Hasegawa (who only ever directed two films), and written by Paul "Taxi Driver" Schrader's brother Leonard Schrader).

Started watching Bamboo Blade this weekend, and I'm now at episode 7 or 8 or something. It's very entertaining so far. It's about kendo.
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Finished watching Bamboo Blade. It was entertaining, but it wasn't really going anywhere with either the characters or the story, so I understand why it didn't continue...

It didn't continue because the manga was still ongoing at the time, I enjoyed the series regardless though.

Yeah, it was very light but entertaining. Not a classic or anything, but a nice little time-waster. I did feel it didn't quite reach it's full potential.Shingster wrote:It didn't continue because the manga was still ongoing at the time, I enjoyed the series regardless though.

Watching Berserk again, and listening to the soundtracks a ton. Hirasawa Susumu is awesome.

Berserk is phenomenally good, christ is it painful being a fan of the manga though! Fantastic work from Hirasawa on that show as well, I regularly blast Forces out of my speakers. You revisiting it as a refresher before the new series next year?

Yeah I think it'll be slated for next year or early 2012, rumour has it it's going to be full CG as well! More here.Gaijin84 wrote:New series next year??? I had no idea!! No, I was just watching again after recommending it to a friend. Forgot how much I liked it the first time I saw it.
I doubt it will be continuing on from the old series because they kinda altered the manga plotline too much for it to be continued without huge plot holes, I'm also hoping the new series will be split across yearly seasons of about 13 or 26eps as it's taken Miura 20yrs to get through almost 36 volumes of material, and the story is probably only about two-thirds or a half finished!

Downloaded Eden of the East in HD to give it another try (only 11 episodes, is that correct?).
Also downloaded Samurai Champloo in HD, and Welcome to NHK which is supposedly good (although sadly not in HD)
What's Panty and Stocking about? Although I can guess...

It's a crazy new series by the guy who did Dead Leaves and Gurren Lagann, the episodes are short and reminiscent of Cartoon Network shows, but with sexual tones and bad language.

They're short sketches about a hamster names Ebichu, her owner, and her boyfriend. It's very very funny.gasteropod wrote:I haven't heard of Ebichu!

Reviving an old topic for a query.
Has anybody seen both the Gunbuster OVA and movie? I watched half of the movie last night and as I understand it has nothing additional over the OVA, it's only cut down and really felt like it. I'm just wondering what sort of stuff has been cut out, and if it's worth watching the OVA.
Definitely seems like the precursor to Evangelion, in appearance and approach.
