There has got to be something wrong with those captures. I see barely any difference in quality. In fact, the first one looks like its had a hell of a DVNR pass.
Take a look at the comparisons here:

MASSIVE difference in quality.
Still hate that cover art though!

There's nothing wrong with the captures, it's just that Salty's kept them at their native resolution so it's harder to gauge the difference between the 576p grabs and the 1080p ones. If you resize salty's 576p like in the comparison you've linked to and compare to his BD grabs then you get this:

Agreed. Big improvement. I'll be getting this for sure but I'll probably wait for the UK disc, it's likely to be cheaper.

The UK disc is only a single disc and not a 2-Disc release.bradavon wrote:Agreed. Big improvement. I'll be getting this for sure but I'll probably wait for the UK disc, it's likely to be cheaper.
I'm back AGAIN.

So it is. I picked the UK BD up recently. I hadn't even noticed. I wonder if this means the picture or audio (maybe lower bitrate) suffers? The extras look to be identical (including a lot in HD).

My apologies for a slow reply but the film disc is on a BD50 and the extra features are on another Blu-ray disc. The bitrate for the film is astonishingly high, even on my 480p TV the picture looks great. Far superior in comparison to the DVD.bradavon wrote:So it is. I picked the UK BD up recently. All of Spielbergs films look great on Blu-ray anyway since he has personal approval and more for them.
