Not sure it works like that.
I got the UK DVD recently (put away for my birthday).
Why DVD when you have a Blu? You get get it for £7.99.
I only had a certain budget I could go over.
Thanks though :) If I like the film I can upgrade.

Well if your budget couldn't stretch to £7.99 then whoever is buying your present is a tightwad ;) why didn't you just rent it if you aren't sure? if you like it you'll have to get rid of the dvd to buy the blu.odd.

I agree. If there's only a couple of pounds difference I'd go with the Blu. Saves the hastle of having to offload the DVD and rebuy it in another format if you like it. If it's crap you can probably get more for the Blu regardless. If the difference is more than a fiver I guess that I could understand. Like I got the Inglourious Basterds DVD but it only cost me £2.99 whilst the cheapest BD is much more. As it turns out I'm not keeping the DVD anyways.

My whole budget was £40 and I could buy whatever BDs/DVDs I wanted with it (to have as gift from a relative) :) I should have been clearer.

It sounds like SPL is a good alternative to the more expensive HK BD. But could he be comparing FOL against a recent movie? Sure it doesn't sound promising but was he expecting too much?

Do the problem mentioned exist on the DD DVD?

Aside from the comment about halos there's nothing in there to suggest that it doesn't look too differently to how it should, as there was no way DD/Cine-Asia were going to be striking the HD transfer from the original negatives, so we should all expect it to be soft and grainy and inconsistent. It's a shame he doesn't confirm once and for all what edit of the film it is (not that anyone's expecting it to be the original cut).

It's a '94 movie. If they can fucking remaster old flicks like Fist of Fury and old Shaw classics in a decent state, they sure as hell should be able to give us a decent release of Fist of Legend.

They have? The Fist of Fury BD looks awful, worse than many of the DVDs.

Funnily enough, I was thinking exactly the same. The halos are odd but otherwise.

I wasn't talking about BR-releases in specific, but it's just sad that there isn't even a definitive DVD-release of Fist of Legend out yet, while Fist of Fury has gotten a few good DVD releases already (for example).

The BL Blu-Rays look to have horrible colours compared to the DVD.

Well i actually own them and in my opinion they look very good, far superior than the dvd,the Big Boss especially. No mono is out of order though, for the purists.

FOL BD arrived today, US cut but proper English subtitles (not dubtitles). Only had a quick skim of it on my 19" TFT so can't comment in depth, but there's a load of brightness flickering going on with this print, anyone notice this on their DD DVD?

The DVD turned to dubtitles towards the end apparently.

Ah, well I only checked the final scene of the film for dubtitles so all seems well there at least. I'll be watching the film later tonight.

Isn't the USA cut the HK cut minus the end credit footage, no?

To be honest, if FOF wasn't so damn expensive, I'd risk it and see for myself. It's a great film but those BDs are a rip off. Only TBB I'd consider paying those prices for and I'm not enough of a fan of that one, to upgrade my DVD.

Maybe. haven't seen it.

A print doesn't have to be perfect, but it shouldn't have obvious dumb flaws which were made by dumb/lazy decisions.
