Halloween 6 BD 1.5/5

Pretty weak entry in the series, clearly a tampered with film as the existence of a producer's cut (i have it but not watched) shows.Donald Pleasance looks ill in this one and his role is significantly reduced.Paul Rudd is Tommy Doyle, the kid Laurie was babysitting in the original.i like how he tips up to a bus station and early on and casually finds a hidden baby, like no-one else would've heard it's cries

Sorority Row - 3/5

Not very original, but it moves along at a good enough pace. Worth a watch. Gains an extra point just for the hotness that is Briana Evigan. She's also pretty much the only half-decent actress in the film too. Yummy.

Astro Boy: 2/5

Pretty dumbed down version of the story and content of Astro Boy (going by the excellent GBA game Astro Boy: Omega Factor) and (from what I gather) the animé series (but I haven't seen that). Taking elements of the social content (fake boy trying to be human) of Pinocchio and nicking some battle scenes from The Incredibles, it only seemed to tell a few of the events of the game and some were changed. Not completely bad, but not very great either.

Halloween:H20 BD 3/5

Something of a return to form for the franchise, this ignores events from 4-6 and surprisingly Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her signature role.Moves along at a nice clip (under 90 minutes) though as usual with these movies credibility is stretched Security guard LL Cool J takes around 9 bullets,is left lying in a pool of blood,20 minutes later he's walking around talking to his wife saying he'd received a graze :P better than 4-6 and probably slightly better than pt 2.The blu-ray isn't that hot, certainly a lot better than the dvd which has always looked like shit.

Halloween:Resurrection BD 2/5

Not the best note on which to end the original series of films while this isn't as bad as it's reputation suggests it's still disappointing.pity as the first 20 minutes were pretty good,it then goes into a stupid Big Brother style plotline.i mean Myers being kung fu drop kicked by Busta Rhymes  fuck me that's lame...

H20 was competant alright... but I wouldn't say it was better than 2 or 4.

Halloween (2007) BD 2.5/5

This Rob Zombie remake has sort of started to grow on me,it's overlong but has some interesting ideas.i liked the fact it spent a lot of time on young Michael, downside being it's around an hour in before Myers gets to Haddonfield so from that point in the rest of the movie seems rushed. lots of genre stalwart cameos is a nice touch, though most seem to end up being offed by Michael, Sybil Danning,Danny Trejo,William Forsythe amongst others. worth seeing.

Halloween 2 (2009) BD Unrated 1.5/5

Poor sequel has some weird ideas,Sheri Moon as a white angel with a white horse wtf! The Laurie Strode character has developed into a nasty bitch and the film has plenty of unlikeable characters,McDowell as Loomis is the worst of them,he's now a media whore.in fact the only remotely likeable characters in the movie are Brad Dourif and Danielle Harris.i hear the theatrical version is rather different.

The other night I watched..

Dirty Harry (Widescreen VHS, 1971)

What a movie. One I can watch over and over. 5 perfect stars :)

Hmmmm.

Also watched...

Broken Embraces (DVD, 2009)

Only half watching but it seemed good. My other half liked it :)

Broken Embraces is excellent. I've yet to see an Almodovar film that isn't. My other half hasn't ever seen an Almodovar film (:o), we're going to see Talk to Her tonight. Which I've not seen, it's supposed to be his magnum opus.

Ow yeah, I watched Tropic Thunder a few days ago. Waste of time. Horrible movie. 2/5, and that score is mostly that high because of Robert Downey Jr's performance, cause there is very little else in that movie that is recommendable.

Ben Stiller, a reason to avoid any film, ever.

Toolbox Murders 1/5

Pedestrian, sleazy slasher pic has garnered a bit of a notorious reputation but in truth it's a pretty poor effort. A toolbox carrying Masked killer stalks an apartment block slaughtering women by use of nail gun, hammer etc.famous for the scene where porn star Kelly Nichols masturbates in the bath before getting nailgunned, star Cameron Mitchell chews the scenery throughout.it's unusual in that the killings are all done in the first 30 minutes and the film then becomes an odd sort of psycho drama. haven't seen the Tobe Hooper in name only remake.

Universal Soldier:Regeneration 2.5/5

As decent as could be expected for a DTV sequel. clearly very low budget and filmed virtually all inside a disused eastern european power facility,it was nevertheless cool to see JCVD & Dolph face off again as unisols :) plenty of action,it's no classic but definitely better than part 2. was a bit annoyed that the JCVD/Dolph rematch was a little short, the main battle being JCVD vs someone called Andre Pitbull worth seeing.

Avatar 3D (3.5/5)

Well it was a fun cinema experience. 3D version essential as there would be noticeable dumb/slow bits that are otherwise carried by the 3D-ness.

See it in the Cinema if you think you'll like it. Not one I'd ever want to own, could see myself watching 10 mins worth if I caught it on tv one time. :)

In Bruges 3.5/5 (German BD)

Second time around watching this,it's certainly a grower.excellent performances from Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell.Ralph Fiennes doesn't appear until over an hour in and proves a charismatic villain though he comes off a little similar to the Ben Kingsley character in Sexy Beast. For some bizarre reason this isn't out on BD in the uk or usa so i picked up the German BD.It's not a stunner but looks very good.
