I just had a brief scary experience. I just put a CD on and the sound was all weird and tinny, I was thinking, 'great, knew it was too good to be true, it's fucked already', took the CD out and put another one in and it was the same. So I turned it off and reinserted the leads and then turned it back on again, and now it's fine. Phew.

Do you know what's interesting? That was the only time that I had turned my receiver on after starting a CD in the player, so it may well have been to do with the DACs you mentioned. But if the receiver's already on beforehand, it sounds fooking awesome :)

I wonder if your receiver needs to warm up first? That is odd otherwise. I don't know much about DACs but I do know the quality of them differs wildly.

Nope absolutely nothing to do with my receiver needing to warm up, as I say it was doing the tinny sound even when I changed the CD, and this has never happened before, it's got to be to do with this Limit player. Still, I think it was simply due to my starting the CD before turning the receiver on (which I never do usually).

I'm trying to work out how that would make any difference though.

I know, it's very odd. I just hope it was that, and not some kind of fault that's developing with the player. As I say, it's working fine now though.

I see the Limit's DAC is 96KHz/24-bit, but I'm struggling to find out what the PS3's is, can you find it?

The original PS3 supported SACD, which must mean it was 192Khz/24-Bit. I don't know about existing ones, either the same or 96KHz/24-bit. I'm not aware of any BDs that go higher than 96KHz/24-bit. Maybe stereo tracks.

Bottle Rocket's arrived, just tried to play it and it said region code mismatch, so I took it out and typed in the 'one-off' code (973500) and voila, it played.

When you say "one off", does that mean it goes back to Region B, when put in standby?

Sorry, what I meant was I used the code that allegedly makes it permanently region free.

And the reality is, it goes back to Region B?

I've just tested it and it's stayed region A after being on standby and it won't play region B now (until I use a region B code). But since I only need this for region A that's fine by me.

Turns out it's to do with a firmware update:
*EDIT* After using the new FW dated 14/1/10, the code 973500 no longer works for me to make everything multiregion without using the multiregion codes for each region now.

I've noticed that this player oversharpens the image, just been comparing discs on this and my PS3 and my suspicions were correct. By turning my TV's sharpness down to its minimum of -50 it's improved the matter slightly, but ringing still persists unfortunately.

Interesting. It's the only player I know of that has had true Multi-region. I'd have to consider what the new firmware gives, before upgrading.

Apparently it adds deep colour support and fixes some bugs. To install it you have to use a USB stick and a CD-R so I can't be bothered (I don't have the tools either).

Both! WTF! That makes no sense. I'd have no interest in Deep Colour but I guess it depends what the bugs are.

I've not yet experienced any bugs, but on that forum there's talk of it having trouble with certain discs.

How come it's not permanent for you? If you've not applied the new firmware.

I don't think that code actually makes it permanent from what people have said. Someone theorised that it makes it region free until you put in a disc, and then whatever region that disc is, the player becomes said region from then on.

What is the point in that then? :D. DVD Region Free and BD Region Selectable is the best we can expect.
