Once Upon A Time In China & America R2 Spain Vs Germany
Spanish is pretty worthless as it only has an english dub option and no english subs, german is anamorphic, original language and english subs (though there is no mention of them on the case)

I didn't realise Rosamund Kwan was on this. Is it really that bad? As usual dumb as nuts German re-title. I take it the UK DVD is still the best?
Speaking of OUATIC are we ever going to see official DVDs of Parts 4 and 5 anywhere? Are these any good quality?, it says English subs/anamorphic:
Part 4: http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.541 ... etails.htm
Part 5: http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.540 ... etails.htm
Before anyone says, yes I know they're probably bootlegs. If no one is going to release official DVDs, screw them.

Yes, and Salty somehow managed to find unflattering caps.bradavon wrote:I didn't realise Rosamund Kwan was on this.
No, it's reasonable enough - but better if you see the Cantonese-English version. Basically a plot mix of Who Am I? and Shanghai Noon, but made before either (allegedly because Sammo stole Jackie's ideas). Is it really that bad?
Unless my eyes deceive me the title on the German menu is correct. As usual dumb as nuts German re-title.
It's letterboxed though IIRC.I take it the UK DVD is still the best?

HKVideo released the entire 1-6 I think.
I think your specs on the German release are wrong. The best DVD for English-speaking audiences was released late last year in Germany - new English subtitles, English/Cantonese/Mandarin soundtracks and uncut 2:35:1 anamorphic progressive video with extras.

Thanks. I heard that too.Markgway wrote:No, it's reasonable enough - but better if you see the Cantonese-English version. Basically a plot mix of Who Am I? and Shanghai Noon, but made before either (allegedly because Sammo stole Jackie's ideas).
True but at least it has English subs and the original language.Markgway wrote:It's letterboxed though IIRC.
I didn't know that. I wonder why no American or UK distributor has picked them up.HungFist wrote:HK Video released parts 3-6 a million years ago.
Is it any good?chenlung wrote:I think your specs on the German release are wrong. The best DVD for English-speaking audiences was released late last year in Germany - new English subtitles, English/Cantonese/Mandarin soundtracks and uncut 2:35:1 anamorphic progressive video with extras.

Could you update your first post so people know about this version?
BTW, the Blu-Ray of this and 'Fist Of Legend' are upconverts from SD (!!!)

Don't you check out the audio/subs menus? I always do. It looks like it has the original audio too.saltysam wrote:that's the one i've got.don't know how i missed the fact it had english subs, thought it was german only
What! Have they released any other BDs or are they all Upscaled SD transfers?chenlung wrote:BTW, the Blu-Ray of this and 'Fist Of Legend' are upconverts from SD (!!!)
There's not much cut in the USA DVD is there? The German DVD is bound to cost loads more.chenlung wrote:It's preferred because it's the HK version and probably better quality. DD's extras are another thing to consider though.

the disc was sent to me in error.a cursory look at the specs on the case led me to wrongly believe it had english dub only.if other members of this board had knowledge a decent version of this movie had been released why couldn't they have posted the info? ChenLung i'm looking at you :twisted:bradavon wrote: Don't you check out the audio/subs menus? I always do. It looks like it has the original audio too.

I have to ask, what were they supposed to be sending you?
Agreed, I hate it when members keep information back, either through presuming it's already known or laziness.
I take it Cantonese is the original language? I tend to listen to only one soundtrack. Like Seven Swords. I listened to Mandarin despite some of the actors having their actual voice on the Cantonese dub.

I posted a few places that the film was out on a great DVD . Tell you what, I'll post a German releases thread here sometime and keep us updated . Cantonese is the original language, but I still recommend listening to it in Mandarin as well as half of the cast speak in their language (Richard Ng is always speaking Cantonese in either track). A hybrid track retaining all the actor's voices would be interesting!
German FOL is out.
