R2J has slightly less picture, but also less compression - which shows.

I don't think we'll ever see a true remaster of this series. Rebuild is about all we'll get.

Do you think that the R1 thinpak version, that occupies fewer discs, will be any different?

I have that one. Which episodes those caps from? Ta.

R2 Italian (Progressive)
It's an "upgrade" from the american masters (not a new remaster)

It looks like it might be from a higher resolution master, especially if it has none of the aliasing/bobbing as the NTSC releases. But it has also clearly been filtered.

In any case if these DVD editions are indicative of the best HD master available then I'd prefer if they re-transferred it before releasing it on Blu-ray. This restoration still has some bleeding, edge enhancement, contrast boosting and in my opinion rather dull colours.
