This desirable man needs a thread of his own. In the film / dvd board because I also intend to discuss his movies. Maybe. Yes!

Watching Maison de himiko without knowing anything about it except that it stars Odagiri and is directed by the Jozee helmer Isshin Inudou, it came as a bit of surprise that Odagiri was playing a gay man taking care of elderly transvestites. Ogagiri fans have still much to enjoy, though, as the the star is as cute as ever - more so than Kou Shibasaki actually. Unfortunately not many other elements work during the poor first half. The second 60 minutes is entertaining, even if doesn’t reach the Ozu-level. Also included is a great dance scene that is worth watching a few times before you sell your copy.

The KR dvd comes some collectable cards. The disc itself is almost certainly a R2J port and features english subs.

Some years back I remember how Platonic Sex used to be a favourite of people who dislike conventional teen dramas... How Platonic Sex differs from those, I never quite found out. But to be honest, every self respecting young person should have a slice of over-cliched JP drama in his dvd shelf. This is a decently good choice for that purpose. Jô Odagiri is young and handsome, Saki Kagami can’t act but she’s underage and playing a real life av star (now, that’s what separates this from Hollywood stuff), and the soundtrack features some good music. Of course the film does have it’s flaws – the stretched ending, the hilariously bad supporting performances, etc - , but it’s still somewhat fun to watch. It has a good romance, too (I promise not to edit this).

The caps are from the HK disc.

I'm not too keen about "Plastic City" yet (that cast-combination is pure gold, though), but "Platonic Sex" looks kinda, uhm, interesting.
By the way, has anybody seen "Maison de Himiko", with Jo Odagiri and Kou Shibasaki? I haven't, but I'd like to know if it's any good.

//EDIT: Sorry, just noticed that Hung Fist has already posted a review. ;)

- Blood and Bones (2004)
- Princess Raccoon (2005)
- Shinobi: Heart Under Blade (2005)
- Scrap Heaven (2005)

I don't think Plastic City is gonna be good either, but it will be interesting to see Odagiri in a "foreign" film. Although for that purpose Big River might be a better choise. There's R2J and KR dvds available. No subs, but from what I've understood the film is almost entirely in English.

I just noticed that there's an affordable KR release of Adrift in Tokyo. Cdjapan has the 2 Disc R2J for -30% (first press still in stock) but it's still much more expensive than the KR 1 disc release.

And something else that came to my mind: a Canadian distributor has licensed Hazard. No idea when it will be out, though.
