Doesn't look to exciting.

I'm starting to wonder if Yen and Yip ever manage to do anything even half as good as SPL.

will be as great (or even better than) as SPL? we'll see... it certainly has the potentials.

but this looks much better than DTG and Flash Point combined, no doubt.

I thought it was truly bad for the most part, with a great finale :)

Flash Point was OK. I didnt really care about the story or the characters TBH, but the few fight sequences were pretty good, and the movie just looked very good.

It's nowhere near as good as SPL though.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

I managed to catch half of Ip Man at a Cinema in Singapore a couple of days ago. I had to leave for the airport, so had to go early. :(

Of what I saw, it was pretty freaking awesome, and the people I was with (who saw it all) said it was excellent.

Great fight scenes, some good humour, and a good story to boot.

Can't wait to be able to watch the rest of it. :p

Even though I only saw half of it, I think I like it better than SPL, which I very highly regard! Flash Point I watched the other month, and it was good, but a rung or two below SPL.

Sequel confirmed.

4/5
Very good film. Donnie Yen's performance was terrific here. The supporting cast was mixed bag, Simon Yam was dependable as ever. The guy playing the Japanese general was okay, as was the out-of-towner Northern-style boxing bully.

It's nice to see filmmakers who KNOW how to shoot action properly. I'm so sick of Hollywood's recent trend of shaky camerawork, close shots and lightning fast editing. It's f**king horrible most of the time, only Paul Greengrass (Bourne 2 & 3, United 93) has been able to make that style work and not seem like a turgid mess of lazy filmmaking.

Sammo's fight choreography was absolutely top notch here, much better than his efforts in Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle (Actually I thought that film was really poor, not funny at all. 2/5.)

The plot of "Patriotic martial artist vs. Foreign meanies" is utterly cliched though, but it's one of the tropes of the near-contemporary period martial arts sub-genre, so it's entirely forgivable.

Another trailer here:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YkHmYJmfu ... re=related

Is the story like "Legend Of a Fighter" or "Fist of Fury", its about Bruce Lee's mentor/tutor and as you say Eva it has a "Patriotic Chinese v Foreign bad guys" story which is like a lot of MA 70's films (Hapkido, Fist of Fury etc)

Looking forward to it :D

I'd agree with the 4/5 score.

The fight scenes are superbly choreographed, and whilst the plot feels cliched, it is very well acted for the most part. It was a breath of fresh air to see minimal use of wires too!

I certainly think this is the best film Donnie has done, and I would say that it's now my favourite Wing Chun film .... sorry Warrior's Two!

Quick question, I presume that the original dialogue track for this is Cantonese?

Ahh interesting, I saw it in Singapore at the cinemas but couldn't remember if it was in Cantonese or Mandarin... so I had a look at the dvdrip that is out there, and the words seemed to match the voices, so just assumed Mandarin was the original language!

Wikipedia confirms Cantonese too.

Well it's now available to pre-order on most asian dvd/blu-ray stores... (dddhouse.com would be my choice), but holy crap the Blu-ray is expensive, especially against the Aussie Pesos :p What a shame, I want this movie on Blu-ray, but I'm not willing to spend the amount of money for it. :\ Could I be sacrilegeious and buy the DVD? :p

Release date is Feburary 13
