I'd only get a USA Player but that doesn't mean I want a Region Locked BD, when you'll likely be able to get a Region Free disc in a few months.

You do like going round in circles don't you
. I've said it many times, but just for you
- As you know I've only ever been interested in Region A, yes there is nothing on Region B that interests me but that doesn't mean I want Region Locked discs.
Why? Because they're less future safe and I cannot lend them to people, who're bound to get a Region B BD Player. Obviously if the Region A disc is better or only on Region A I'll buy it but given a choice I can wait.
For example: Lionsgate's Rambo 4 is bound to be Region A but Sony's UK disc will likely be Region Free and have an identical spec. If it ends up not having the deleted scenes and/or losssless audio I'll get the Lionsgate BD. The same goes for The Orphanage. Optimum tend to port all/most extras over, usually include lossless audio and have never used region coding yet. I've only just seen it so am happy to wait.
Likewise, if The Orphanage was a Fox disc in America and the UK I'd obviously not wait.

Starship Troopers (1997) & Starship Troopers: Marauder:
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/ ... u-ray/1664
Coming in July with PIP Bonus View. There are quite a few Profile 1.1 compatible discs starting to come out. I bet we'll see more and more of it, but Profile 2.0 disc will remain the rarity, at least this year anyway.

I e-mailed Dutch Filmworks to ask if their Reservoir Dog BD is Region Free or Region B. Here is their response:
It's particularly worth noting the extras are PAL!
Extras aside the discs look very similar:
1. BD25
2. MPEG2
3. DTS-HD MA/HR - Rewind "says" the USA disc is HR. Not that it matters I imagine. Reservoir Dogs works in plain jane stereo.
That's a pity, it means both Reservoir Dogs BDs are Region Locked. I wanted the Dutch BD as it has more extras and the USA one is Region Locked. Oh well I'll have to get the USA disc.Answering your questions:
1) It is Regio encoded. This has only happened once in november, our other products are region free.
2) It is Single Layer
3) It has DTS-HD Master Audio
4) The extra`s are in Standard Definition
5) They are PAL
The Blu-Ray part of our website is still in development.

I don't know if this is old news, useful news or worthless news but here is a list of German Concorde HD Discs:
I'm not sure if it's all the titles. 12 Monkeys BD is the only one that interests me. Not that I'm in any rush to buy it.
Source: AVS Forum PM- Underworld uncut (HD & BR)
- Tomb Raider 1 - Lara Croft (HD & BR)
- Tomb Raider 2 - Cradle of life (HD & BR)
- 12 Monkeys (HD & BR)
- Silent Hill (HD & BR)
- We were soldiers uncut (HD & BR)
- Death Sentence (only BR)
- 30 days of night (only BR)

I e-mailed Concorde Germany to ask if their 12 Monkeys BD is Region Free or Region B. Here is their response:
. That is a pity when the only other European company to universally use Region Coding is EIV, as far a I know. I'm not sure they're correct that most USA BDs are Interlaced.
I wanted to pick up their 12 Monkeys BD as it's otherwise HD-DVD Exclusive. I may as well pick up the Universal HD-DVD, there's no point buying the German HD-DVD.
For those who don't know Concorde released the German Underworld: Extended Cut HD-DVD (and BD). I knew the audio would be German DTS-HD MA, English DTS-HD HR. Underworld is the same.
Bugger all their BDs are Region Bthank you very much for your request concerning the Blu-ray Discs we at Concorde Home Entertainment’s released so far.
All our BDs do have a regional code, including the BD “12 monkeys”. They are encoded in progressive, whereas in the US most BDs are being encoded interlaced. The BD “12 monkeys” not only contains the German language version but also the original language version, German subtitles can be removed. As subtitling is subject to the regulations fixed in licensing contracts, there might also be future releases on BD where subtitles cannot be removed.
So far, all BDs Concorde Home Entertainment released, are BD 25s, the English soundtrack is in DTS HD High Resolution.
Bonus features on the BDs are in Standard Definition. As we only hold the distribution rights for Germany, Austria and the German speaking Switzerland, they are in PAL and not in NTSC.

The only upside being: I am only aware of two companies in the whole of Europe who use Region B encoding for all their BDs, most don't use it at all or only have on the odd title. That's much lower than American companies.
It's still annoying though. Region Coding just makes things unnecessarily complicated.

More from Concorde:
.
It's good to hear they're use MPEG4 with BD25s. If only they weren't Region Lockedyou are absolutely right – we no longer produce HD-DVDs, the last films we released on HD-DVD are “Death at a Funeral”, “Black Christmas” and “Death Sentence” (they all are still available on regular DVD and Blu-ray Disc).
The codec used for encoding all our Blu-ray Discs is VC1.

It seems Dutch Filmworks also released a HD-DVD of Reservoir Dogs. Xploitedcinema have it in stock.
Here's a mini-review of it. I'd expect the Dutch BD to be the identical. Photos of the menus, all in English.
Review seems to suggest that they've used either:-
A. The arse brown-tinted master.
B. The more natural looking "old UK 1-discer" master, but with horrible high contrast.
It seems that the US BD is the one to own, as the reddish tinted master used for the R1 15th Anniversary DVD is the best looking version of the film to date.
DFW also put out Lord of War, but it's in the wrong OAR, so fuck it. US BD in the correct scope OAR is the one to own.

Thanks for the post Eva. I knew Dutch Filmworks put out a HD-DVD of several of their BDs but didn't know the rest of your news.
Sadly European/Australasian BD Player owners will have to go with the Dutch BD. The R1 15th Anniversary DVD looks excellent so agreed the USA BD is the better choice, particularly for me going Region A.
