Show your desktop ! (56k warning)
Welcome to the useless and obligatory "show-your-desktop"-thread.
You can post pics to show how you've arranged your icons and taskbar, and also to show off your sexy wallpapers.
-Try not to post images bigger than 1024x768.
-Try to keep the filesize acceptable (300kb max).
Here's mine:
All icons are in the taskbar (folders on the left, programs on the right).
The white dot at the top left is the "My Computer" shortcut.
The second white dot is the trash-can.
The wallpaper is automatically changed everytime the computer restarts.
Your turn.
Time to try the new "image hosting" option on bullets.

Good idea. I'll post mine tonight.
Actually 640x480 would be better, there is no need to make it 1024x768 it will only mean scrolling.
I used to have my wallpaper change each time I restarted but:
A: I now leave my PC turned on
B: It takes resources to run the relevant program
I hate icons on my desktop I only have My Computer, Recycle Bin and a program my Dad uses that won't run on his PC (we gave up trying to get it working).
I access everything via Quick Launch and the Start Menu, much cleaner.
p.s - Aren't you a Mozilla man? I prefer e-Donkey to Emule personally. How come your System Tray is virtually empty? No virus checker?

Nope, Mozilla isn't stable enough for me.Aren't you a Mozilla man ?
I only need the sound mixer. How come your System Tray is virtually empty ?
-My wallpaper-changing program launches at start-up and then exits to free resources.
-My firewall allowed me to give up on antivirus programs.
-No other program is allowed to start at start-up.

Ouch. Don't go with that mentality mate. There are always ways in which firewalls can be bypassed, whether they are software or hardware firewalls.Tom2681 wrote:My firewall allowed me to give up on antivirus programs.
I personally have a hardware firewall built into my router but I also still use the Windows XP built-in firewall & I have AVG Anti-Virus running in the background.
Anyway, here's my latest desktop for my main PC (the perpetually sexy Rachel Stevens, as if she needs any introduction!):
TH-42PX80 | DMP-BD50 (MR BD & DVD) | SA-XR55 | SB-TP20 | XBox 360 Slim 250GB | XBox (XBMC, 160GB) | Zotac XBMC HTPC | Gaming PC | 8TB Media Server

I run in the System Tray:
MSN Messenger - Connected 24/7
ActiveSync - For my SmartPhone
Norton CleanSweep's Smart Sweep - Great at properly uninstalling programs
Sound Mixer
Norton AntiVirus
Microsoft Outlook - I may as well have it open at Start up
I have running when needed:
Winamp - Hence all the media buttons
eDonkey2000 - I never much liked BitTorrent
Kazaa K++ Lite - Old but still decent
That sounds like a lot but it's not really. I hate it when people have cack like:
RealPlayer
QuickTime
WinZip
And stacks of other junk they never ever use.
Mine:
Did you know IE 6 is 4 years old technology (excluding the minor update in SP2).
Surely you must have some programs that sit in the tray though? MSN Messenger?
p.s - It's good to see I'm not alone in clutter free desktops!

What an odd picture, why???
Huh? You must be running an old version. It's very stable and has oodles and oodles of more features to "Internet Explorer your crap". I couldn't go back now.Tom2681 wrote:Nope, Mozilla isn't stable enough for me.

Which program is this?-My wallpaper-changing program launches at start-up and then exits to free resources.
WTF you're asking for trouble. Everything IM said PLUS what about CD/DVD installations? A Firewall does nothing for those.-My firewall allowed me to give up on antivirus programs.
Yep true.-You wouldn't believe how fast computers can go when the system tray is empty.

Says you.Suddenly Tom's wallpaper looks really dull
It's called XeWall or XeWallpaper.-My wallpaper-changing program
-Which program is this?
It's free, very easy to use, and doesn't use any resources.
I format my drive every two months.-give up on antivirus programs.
-WTF you're asking for trouble.
+all my data is saved at every start-up.
Viruses can come into my computer, but there's nothing to destroy.
I don't even have Messenger. I uninstalled it long ago.Surely you must have some programs that sit in the tray though? MSN Messenger?
There is NOTHING in my tray. Except the sound mixer.

I thought everyone used MSN Messenger.
Every 2 Months - WTF??? Why? That's excessive. I'd say once a year is good.
It probably isn't a big job for you if you don't run any programs though.
Seriously you can get a very low resource hungry virus checker and what about AntiSpyware? That can slip through too.
Busted!
Besides your tray now has 3 programs in it???
I use it too, top program but in our days of Broadband it doesn't have much use anymore. It's directory download is cool though, copy a link into the clipboard and it will download all pictures in that HTML file.

What you mean backed up? Fat lot of good if your PC has a virus you don't know about it and it gets backed up.+all my data is saved at every start-up.

I think you'll find GetRight sits in the trayTom2681 wrote:There is NOTHING in my tray. Except the sound mixer.

This has been my desktop picture for the last 3-4 weeks orso.
It usually changes every month or whenever I feel like changing it...
I just cleaned up the the desktop cause there's a computer-guy coming over tomorrow to fix it... but usually it's a fucking mess with all kinds of files on the desktop. I usually save all my stuff to desktop, and then have a couple of maps on there where I (should) put it in, like [movies], [school], [naruto], [music] etc etc...

I really like Avant. I think someone on this board recommended it to me, and I never looked back since.bradavon wrote:Cool that's funky.
How does Avant compare to Mozilla Firefox? It support ActiveX that doesn't sound like a good idea.
That 'Safe Recovery' function sounds wicked.
I was thinking about giving Opera ago but figure Mozilla Firefox is now number two and besides Mozilla Firefox is tops.
It supports activeX but you can turn it off if you want, as well as lots of other stuff you can turn off (like scrips and shit...)
Havent had any/much problems with it so far.
I only know Firefox from the pc's and macs we have at school, and maybe that's a very basic version or something, but it doesnt seem that special to me. I don't think I would change browsers at the moment. I'm very satisfied with Avant. It's not very well known, I believe, but when you look at download.com or tucows.com, most people seem to rate it very highly.
The only shitty thing about it is the mouse-movement functions, so when you move the mouse in a certain way you can actually go back or forth in pages you visited... but ofcourse you can turn this function off
It has many many features. I have never fully explored them though, mainly cause I don't really give a shit... I just wanna surf and browse...
The safe-recovery just means that when your PC suddenly stops/hangs ... and you restart everything, it gives you an option to open 1 or more of the pages you had opened when it broke down...
It's pretty handy, but luckily you won't need it too often if things are OK.
I just browsed through the available skins and although its much better looking then IE, it isnt all too original or anything. I would have liked some skins to fit with the lemon-green windows XP theme...
Bottom-line: It's a great browser

Extensions is one thing that seems unique to Mozilla Firefox, you can add so many cool functions that IE will never have (built in anyway).
Firefox can do that mouse trick it sounded cack to me so I never bothering to enable it.
p.s - LD you do realise you don't 'have' to save everything to your desktop right?

And Romero is busted again . He he @ Tom.
Grim I imagine Yi-Long recognises 'tricia helfer' and what do you think 'heavy load is'?
Are you still running Firebird Romero (instead of Firefox)? That looks like an old version.
p.s - I never managed to work out why people put so much crap on their desktop, it doesn't even make it that much easier to find.

I made spelling mistakes as they are quick temp files which will be deleted within a few hours fools, I dont need spelling right for them it beats just trying "sehjxngfksgfyu" or anything like that, which I ussually do. It was to clean up the DT as quick as Pos as I had to much stuff on it, once they are cleanly placed in files where they are needed it should be perfect and most will be deleted in a day or two anyway as its the files inside which are the things I want.
and no none of them are porn you fools Heavy Load is a programe for testing system stablility as my PC is not working well as its running way to fast and hot and blowing out all the time
Tricia Helfer is a file with some pics of the lovley lady (do a google)
and Monica I have idea what that is but I am sure it aint porn.
Frebird I am indeed still running as I tried the new Firefox and gave up instantly as it hadnt sent over my old stuff like passwords, saved, favorates, old words typed into the Search bar etc.. to much work as no way I want to start again
and yes it does make things easy to find when stuff is saved onto the desktop, as soon as the PC starts up you can see what you saved and have to do, what to convert, what to watch etc.. if that not easy then I dont know what is.

I actually googled Tricia Helfer cause I never heard of her before first couple of pics are sexy/nudes... so figured it would be porngrim_tales wrote:LOL
Sorry but thats funny
How do you know its pOrn though? From the filenames it could be anything.
Heavy Load sounded like porn, as well as 'monica' ...
I also always save stuff to my desktop, just so it doesnt get lost. It's a fucking mess at times, yeah... but I rather have it on my desktop then having to find the search-function to find some things again.p.s - I never managed to work out why people put so much crap on their desktop, it doesn't even make it that much easier to find.
I do try to file them into different maps when I'm done with them though...

Thats another reason, as things can go wrong and get lost, desktop if perfect for things you only need for a little time then you can either store them, or delete themYi-Long wrote: I also always save stuff to my desktop, just so it doesnt get lost. Tricia Helfer strangley has shown her boobs once or twise in the past for moddeling, apart from that she is fairly clean
