We have good taste. At least we're not claiming Born Invincible is the greatest film ever!

The Dark Knight Rises - Director's Cut Ahead?
Rumors About a Possibly Longer Cut on Blu-ray

After The Dark Knight, the expectations regarding The Dark Knight Rises were immense. However, not everybody saw them met and critics weren't as blown away as they were by the predecessor. One contributing fact might be that Bane didn't get as much attention as he was supposed to have.

The home video release on Blu-ray might change this situation, though. As NuketheFridge reports, their sources tell them that Warner Bros. is currently working on a Director's Cut of The Dark Knight Rises. According to them, this new version runs about 30 minutes longer and would lengthen the film's runtime to a slim 194 minutes.

The new material is said to deal with the origins of Bane and should integrate him more in the film in general. On top of that, Ra's Al Ghul would get more screentime.

The fact that Christopher Nolan has never done a longer version of any of his other films before could pose as a counterargument. However, as the saying goes, "never say never". Maybe the upcoming announcement of the DVD and Blu-ray release by Warner Bros. reveals if there might be a Director's Cut of The Dark Knight. Otherwise, it's also possible that this might be made public later on to make more cash.

The home video releases are expected to come out late in 2012.

Yeah, especially since they went to all the trouble of applying scar makeup up his spine and it's not even shown in the final film.

Although it's a good performance and character, it's not really Bane for me, the definitive version of which is likely to be Peter Marrinker on the BBC's radio version of Batman Knightfall.

The aspect ratio changes when it's IMAX footage, and the scope stuff has EE and looks generally boosted as if the muppets were trying to make it match the quality of the IMAX footage.

Personally I like the mixture of aspect ratios and hope they do it again. You muppets for not seeing it in TDKR in the cinemas though.

The Dark Knight is my fave of the trilogy. I'll be getting the Rises BD for sure.

Ah thanks. I have the BR but haven't watched it yet. I've seen the movie in the cinema though. I just thought I read it had a good BR release (or else I wouldn't have picked it up...), so it struck me as a bit odd to hear you call it a mess... :)

It's often referred to as 'reference quality' :banghead: The IMAX scenes are very impressive though.

What are your thoughts on The Dark Knight Rises variable aspect ratio? Like with the last film, it spoils it for me, and the framing isn't ideal at all, look how daft Batman looks here (whilst in the 2.35:1 version he looks totally fine).

It's especially stupid since 1.78 isn't even the original IMAX aspect ratio.
