Germany: Bloodsport BD (June 28th)

MGM rather than Warner.

I wonder if they'll be using the same HD master?

I already have TIMECOP as a single so this might be worth picking up.

Fox distribute for MGM.

Curious as to why Bloodsport rights are owned by MGM everywhere except the USA (there's an Asian BD coming out soon, too).

I'm guessing Warners also have UK rights, as there's no announcement for this country.

USA BD (Warner) vs. German BD (MGM):

The MGM transfer is clearly better BUT suffers from aliasing! :(

Kinda like looking at the Enter the Dragon comparison pics isn't it? One badly aliased but more detailed, the other blurrier with blown out contrast and a more goldeny, rich look to the colours. Kinda freaky really considering the similarities of the films (both about eastern fight tournaments, Bloodsport obviously being influenced highly by ETD).

I assume the new transfers to both this and ETD were handled by the same team given how similar they've turned out? The cynic in me is beginning to wonder if you've got a point now regarding the colour scheme of the new ETD transfer, can it be just a coincidence that the new Blu-rays have made Bloodsport look so much like ETD?

The strange thing here is that the aliasing is on the 'new' transfer.

How noticeable would it be in motion on a 40" LCD?

I thought the German was the old release because of the aliasing! They must have used a HDTV master or something.
Hard to say on how noticeable the aliasing on the German release would be for you, it depends on your own subjective mindset (we've all got video foibles we notice more than others) and how far you sit from the screen. I think it'd be pretty noticeable within 7-8ft.

There's a poster called kdo who posts regularly over bluray.com, he's insistent the aliasing on the german release isn't noticeable/distracting on his "51 screen.

I think if I had to choose I'd prefer MGM's aliasing over Warner's softer, colour-tweaked, and cropped transfer.

Same as with Enter the Dragon, as mentioned before.

MGM's BDs, which are being released in many countries across Europe and Asia, though not in the UK, may still have been taken from an older, but better HD master, hence the aliasing issue.

Who the fuck knows... there's always something, right?
