New James Bond Blu-ray Discs: Announced!

Post by bradavon »

James Bond on BD, in France this November:

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/1802

None of the first batch interest me. Fingers crossed they get:

DTS-HD MA 5.1
DTS-HD MA 2.0/1.0

But I bet they'll just have 5.1.

p.s - The DVD thread is here:

I'd get From Russia With Love and Live and Let Die, and get rid of my DVDs :)

I'd get Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Thunderball, and Die Another Day.

Will have to be the UK versions since they'll be coded worldwide.

But NO MONO = NO SALE.

Not bothered with the Moore films, at least those two anyway.

I wonder if USA will get Mono but Europe won't, like last time.

I wouldn't be surprised as that happened with the the UE DVDs.

But it seems that many UK BDs are just ports of the US releases so unless they actively drop them and then re-encode the discs...?

Or there's a scary possibility that even the US BDs won't include them, in which case thank god I've got the R1s.

I can see what I said above happening OR no Mono/Stereo period and just Remixes.

Many are, many aren't. Many early Warner titles were the USA discs (e.g - Enter the Dragon) but many are now re-presses to include Europeans dubs/subs. It's at this stage Mono/Stereo could be dropped. The video encode itself is the same though.

Right. It's a case of wait and see.

Did I mention I hate 20th Century Fux?

The cover art is lame.

Wish they'd go back to the original poster art like they used on the old VHS releases. The UE DVD coverart was actually better. Everytime they tamper with it the sleeves grow poorer. I just hope they haven't buggered about with the films in a negative way. Would be awesome if they located the BBFC-censored footage for Dr. No and From Russia With Love. Extemely unlikely anyone involved will bother though...

The original poster art would be cool but it's clear they want a matching range, which counts out poster art. The UE DVD cover art were great.

I'll eat my hat if these aren't based on the recent HD Remasters :D.

Exactly. They should ALL be MASSIVE improvements.

Goldeneye needs fixed big time.

The early Connerys were among the best restorations.

I think the covers are poor, I dont like the way they just plonked the girl next to Bond.

I stuck with my SEs for the Brosnan Bonds. It's no big deal, they're perfectly fine as it is.

1. Reduce fight between Bond and chauffeur particularly the blows when latter is defenceless and the knee kick.

2. Reduce killing of Dent to one shot, removing extra shots into Dent's back.

3. Remove the line "I'm sure she will amuse the guards" ("The guards will amuse her" would be an acceptable alternative).

4. Reduce the beating up of Bond.

All cut to avoid an 'X'

Thanks Mark :) I bow to you with yor film knowlegde :D
An X rating (even in 1962?) :o , Imagine would that be like today, the film would be a 12 at least today I guess if it had not been cut in 1962.

No one outside of the BBFC and the production company has seen the censored footage but I'd imagine it would pass uncut with a '12' today. Most of the PG-rated Bonds even the ones with cuts would be 12(A) certs today due to the moderate violence. We're so used to seeing Bond on Bank Holiday TV but watch them again and they're more violent than you think... electrocution in Goldfinger, neck-breaking in Thunderball, a man set on fire in Diamonds Are Forever, etc... Only TWO Bond films have ever had their cinema cuts waived in the UK - Thunderball (for some reason) and Licence to Kill. The rest are still cut as per with the exception of Goldeneye (which had some cinema cuts waived) and Tomorrow Never Dies (which had only the video cuts waived).

How much does it cost to submit a film? I wonder if that's why.
