Windows 8

Unread postby EvaUnit02 » 29 Oct 2012, 01:16

It was only $20 NZD, so I thought "why the hell not?" and bought it. Will install within the next few hours.

Reviews describe Metro UI as an unintuitive pile of shit (if you don't have a touchscreen), requiring several more clicks to do shit than you would with Win7's Start menu (the UI's design paradigm is apparently not suited for desktops). I'll probably be installing Start8 within the next week, unless I fall in love with Metro (highly doubtful).

Work with change, not against it. Think of the Windows 8 Start Screen as an accompaniment, not replacement for the Desktop. Windows 8 doesn't stop me using Windows like I always have but I also have useful News and Weather apps too.

It's also that bit slicker and faster than Windows 7. I like it (but then I like Millennium and Vista too).

Windows 8.1 is out Oct 17th/18th, am looking forward to it. MS are going the Apple/Android route, releasing new sub-revisions of OSes instead of Service Packs.

Been using Windows 8 for past year and I gotta say that's it's fantastic (w/ Start8 installed), better than Windows 7. I gave Modern UI a far shake, but truly it's a pile of awkward and unreponsive shit with a mouse pointer, I rarely ever see it though thanks to Start8 fulfilling almost every one of my demands.
