Help with SCART cable - which pin to remove!!

Post by degeneration »

In the old BnB this problem was solved.

When watching a DVD with a SCART cable, there is ghosting from the TV signal.

To sort this a pin is removed from one end of the SCART cable.

Which one?

Can anyone help me out here?

Just had a quick google look.

Is it pin 19 that I remove? If so, from the TV or DVD end?

Just for those who care, it is indeed pin 19 you cut/remove on the TV side of the DVD->TV connection.

Mods can lock/close this thread now.

What does this really solve? I've never heard of ghosting being caused by a scart.

I'm sure it's fine as scarts have more wires than they need but I wouldn't want to go messing with mine. What is faulty about pin 19?

Nothing is faulty, but between some TV and DVD players you get a ghosting effect from the TV aerial signal going into the TV. Basically you can kinda see the outline of whatever is going on on the TV channel that the TV is currently tuned to scrolling across the screen. Is more obvious on some colours than others.

It used to happen to me and is currently happening on my girlfs set.

Pin 19 is the synch video out pin. If you snip it on the TV side, then there will be no synch video out signal sent. As most DVD players will be able to show the picture via RGB, this will not affect your dvd image, but it does remove the TV ghosting.

Thanks. I've seen that before now you mention it but not on my TV. Technically speaking isn't it a faulty TV?
