American Psycho
Top: R1 DVD
Bottom: Blu-ray
Blu-ray Disc screen captures are from the AVS forum.
The 1080P Blu-ray Disc easily surpasses the DVD in picture quality. However, there are flaws inherent in both transfer that keep this Blu-ray from completely succeeding.
There is constant ringing in both, less pronounced in the BD. This ringing becomes quite problematic and easily noticeable during playback. Grain seems to have been reduced
creating waxy textures. Also, both versions are pretty dirty with numerous specks, odd considering the age of the film. But detail is quite strong in the Blu-ray, while it
may not reach the heights of I, Robot and other newer films it still does have a few eye candy moments. It's too bad Lionsgate didn't go back to the negatives and present an
unfiltered version of American Psycho with additional cleanup. Oh well, for under $20 it isn't too bad but the movie deserves more. Not only that but most of the extras are missing.
