Don't want to sound like an asshole, but are you sure your caps are right?
I'm seeing a lot of fine detail in your "DVD" caps (the kind of detail you can't find in a 720x576 picture).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

LOL, you're right. I do have the two the wrong way around.

I confirmed it by demuxing the DVD + replicating a screen grab.

:D I thought I was on crack for a moment earlier, did not comment becuase of it. The HD is lighter, less contrast and seems the blacks are bit light :( but it is slightly better detail wise, not exactly good quality HD mind you :( for a film shot on such an epic format film stock, what the hell they did such a shitty transfer onto HD is beyond me.

Maybe the Criterions better than both them :D
