Guess I'm the only person here who's actually seen it then? I remember a time on Bullets when that would've been unthinkable. I'm really not sure why this forum is still running? Anyways, I didn't dislike the film, it just should've been much more. I didn't catch any irony or much in the way of humour at all (though Arnie delivers his material tongue-in-cheek). Maybe I missed it?

it's more a case of "i'll wait to see it at home" these days.i've been the cinema exactly twice in the last 18 months,to see Jaws on the big screen again & The Man Of Steel (a freebie otherwise i wouldn't have bothered)Markgway wrote:Guess I'm the only person here who's actually seen it then? Isn't George Burns in this? Probably one of his final roles, he must have kept working until near the end.Markgway wrote:18 Again! (1988-USA) **½

Halloween 4.5/5 Never tire of watching this, classic, the new blu-ray looks terrific.
Squirm 2.5/5 low budget 70's horror has it's moments.
Prince Of Darkness 2.5/5 nowhere near the heady heights of Carpenter's best, this slightly odd satanic horror at least has Donald Pleasance chewing the scenery to liven things up.

Is it just me or does the male romantic lead (Jameson Parker) resemble a cleaner-cut John Carpenter? His 'tache deserved a Best Supporting Actor nomination.saltysam wrote:Prince Of Darkness 2.5/5 nowhere near the heady heights of Carpenter's best, this slightly odd satanic horror at least has Donald Pleasance chewing the scenery to liven things up.

Definitely! I've never seen Carpenter look any younger than 50 (even back in the day) so I assume Parker looks like carpenter when he was in High School! In Prince of Darkness Parker basically looks like a man wandering around trying to find a Western to star in!Markgway wrote:Is it just me or does the male romantic lead (Jameson Parker) resemble a cleaner-cut John Carpenter?

I couldn't possibly call this noisy, nonsensical mess a good movie... but at least it wasn't dull.

When can we expect this year's review of The Snowman? it's become as much part of christmas tradition as the queen's speechgrim_tales wrote:Recently I saw:

The To-Do List (2013-USA) **
Very raunchy teen comedy; some laughs, but bogged down by relentlessly crude material, shallow, one-note script.

Lords of Salem (USA, 2012) [Cinema] – 3.5/5
Rob Zombie’s near excellent devil horror film. Zombie is best known for excess and gritty world view, and while the latter can certainly be found here, the film is a surprisingly sedate, moody affair. Zombie gives a lot of room for frightening atmosphere and characters. A couple of dream sequences and clichés miss the mark, but overall the film is highly satisfying. No digital effects are used.

Gravity (2013-USA) **
My first theatrical 3D experience... also my last. I went in thinking it was a gimmick... and left feeling the same way. After about 5-10m of 'ooh, isn't that impressive CGI/3D' I was ready for the film to begin and it never does. The whole film is basically one long 'ooh, isn't that impressive CGI/3D' saga. The drama is artificial and frankly I was a bit bored. If you're 3D fan or awed by technical prowess then you may enjoy this more than I did.

argh, Gravity opens here next month... 2D, 3D, and 3D Imax, and I'm torn between which one to see. I'm not a fan of 3D... the only film that benefitted from it was Sex & Zen 3D
Psycho (USA, 1960) [Cinema] - 4.5/5
Date movie - and a bloody good one of course, except that I've never been such a fan of Bernard Herrmann ('s main theme). Never came to think of it before, but I'd bet my money when Shinji Mikami was making the first Resident Evil game they were drawing inspiration from Bates' house and office.
Best comment from gf: "I was sure could see her breasts in the shower scene, but I couldn't. Stupid Hitchcock"

You do get a glimpse of (out of focus) breasts in the shower scene.
