Notes:
original is non-anamorphic. New is anamorphically enhanced. Original has 5.1 surround and the new has 5.1 and 6.1 DTS.
Original is sharper but only because of the artificial edge enhancement. White colours come off as red and yellow. All the colours are too saturated (cap 3). The frame is opened up a bit in all shots in the new disc. Many artefacts are present in the old disc, the news paper is the last cap has the slightest existence of them. And digital artefacts are again in the second last cap on the green wall the the right of Jim's bed.
The new disc does a good job of correcting most of these errors.

Yeah the SE is better.

This felt so fresh when it came out now it just looks old, JC has become to me anyway dull and boring. He's made a career out of the same character.

The original disc looks crap.

No competition.

Yeah I compared the new R1 to my old R2 before and it was a similar thing. When I compared the new R1 to the old R2 of Dumb & Dumber I was shocked to see that the new R1 is quite heavily cropped on at least the bottom of the frame.
