Toolbox Murders 1/5
Pedestrian, sleazy slasher pic has garnered a bit of a notorious reputation but in truth it's a pretty poor effort. A toolbox carrying Masked killer stalks an apartment block slaughtering women by use of nail gun, hammer etc.famous for the scene where porn star Kelly Nichols masturbates in the bath before getting nailgunned, star Cameron Mitchell chews the scenery throughout.it's unusual in that the killings are all done in the first 30 minutes and the film then becomes an odd sort of psycho drama. haven't seen the Tobe Hooper in name only remake.
Universal Soldier:Regeneration 2.5/5
As decent as could be expected for a DTV sequel. clearly very low budget and filmed virtually all inside a disused eastern european power facility,it was nevertheless cool to see JCVD & Dolph face off again as unisols
plenty of action,it's no classic but definitely better than part 2. was a bit annoyed that the JCVD/Dolph rematch was a little short, the main battle being JCVD vs someone called Andre Pitbull worth seeing.

Avatar 3D (3.5/5)
Well it was a fun cinema experience. 3D version essential as there would be noticeable dumb/slow bits that are otherwise carried by the 3D-ness.
See it in the Cinema if you think you'll like it. Not one I'd ever want to own, could see myself watching 10 mins worth if I caught it on tv one time.

In Bruges 3.5/5 (German BD)
Second time around watching this,it's certainly a grower.excellent performances from Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell.Ralph Fiennes doesn't appear until over an hour in and proves a charismatic villain though he comes off a little similar to the Ben Kingsley character in Sexy Beast. For some bizarre reason this isn't out on BD in the uk or usa so i picked up the German BD.It's not a stunner but looks very good.

It is over £10, so for me not a chance. Esspecially when a better disc may well come out in the UK.

I did not say anything was wrong with the German disc
but I would much rather wait and see what comes along when it finally comes to an English speaking country.
and I paid £18 for Watchmen as it was the best film of the year, and I was desperate to see it a few more times. I dont pay over £10 for anything that's for sure. As much as I loved In Bruges, I will keep waiting for some sort of other release rather than impoting at a cost. If it ever comes along.

In Bruges is exactly the type of film that would be available for £7.99 within a few weeks of release in the UK. I love the film but have more than enough Blu-rays to watch and to buy in the meantime while I wait for it to come out.

probably, the dvd is £3 in-store at HMV i believe.who knows it may never get a release here,i'd have thought it would've been out by now.Shingster wrote:In Bruges is exactly the type of film that would be available for £7.99 within a few weeks of release in the UK. Yeah picked up In Bruges in a charity shop I think, so only a couple of quid spent.
Love the film and would upgrade to Blu if it ever drops in the uk and ends up round the fiver mark.

Zombieland 3/5
While not as good as the hype,Zombieland is an enjoyable enough romp. Not particularly funny,Woody Harrelson is very good and Emma Stone is
Ong Bak 3/5
Tony Jaa is a real talent and while this movie is a little raw, poorly acted and overall far from perfect it's got great action scenes and moves at a great pace.
Redbelt 3/5
Well acted but extremely bleak martial arts drama from David Mamet, aside from the main star the characters are pretty unlikeable but it was nice to see Dan Inosanto again

Inglorious Basterds 3/5
Is ok. Nothing that special. Could have been an hour shorter. Far too much drawn out narrative, which left me bored on so many occasions. Typical Tarantino in that regard.

The Godfather Part 2: 3.5/5
I found the film very long and some parts a bit boring (perhaps I wasnt in the mood) but Al Pacino in particular is outstanding in it acting wise and I liked the period atmosphere.

All three are very slow and take concentration. I like all of them but they're not something I'd watch a lot.

Hurt Locker 2.5/5
ok but overhyped war thriller. Some great scenes of tension as a bomb disposal squad in Iraq go about their business but i found the film dragging towards the end and i didn't care much for the characters.Still, well made and worth a watch.

Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkabahn 3/5
Decent 3rd entry in the Potter Series, taking a darker tone to the first two.I'm surprisingly enjoying these films, very good entertainment.
Justice League:Crisis On Two Earths 2.5/5
Decent DC Animated Movie, though at 75 minutes a little rushed. The short 12 minute feature that's an extra on the disc featuring The Spectre is great, and better than the main movie.

Colt 38 Special Squad (Italy, 1976) – 2.5/5
Massimo Dallamano’s last film is a technically well made Italo crime that would, however, benefit from some editing. Car stunts aside Dallamano keeps the film somewhat realistic and character driven. Marcel Bozzuffi stars as a policeman leading a secret hit squad, facing Ivan Rassimov’s devilish blackmailer. Director Dallamano died in a car accident soon after the film was completed. Mainstream audiences are familiar with his work, if not as director, at least as cinematographer (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More).
