Thanks, very interesting.

No need to retire my Animeigo discs then. The R1 looks more pleasing to me, although I do recall there being a lot of small flaws, such as compression and less than perfect audio.

I also recall thinking the R1 transfers were too strong in the color / contrast department, but maybe that was the sequels. These caps look fine.

I may buy the R2J's (mainly for extras), but I'm afraid they might be the same as the UK transfers.

The R1 is interlaced? It looks like it based on that one screenshot. Im happy with my Animeigo discs as well. The subs could be fine tuned a lil bit but nothing to get bothered over. Does the R2 have subs where they explain extra details like the R1 does? Any chance we get a subs comparision to illustrate the improvement?

R2 looks too colourful for me based on those captures.
I have the Thai set which is just a R1 Animego port (I think), thats fine :)

That last shot looks shocking with the lines like that on the USA disc. Still I cannot remember seeing interlacing issues when watching the film, so who cares.

Reagion 1 all the way really from them as the UK disc looks far too dark and you loose far to much detail in the blackness, its garbage when they make the blacks so dark that you cannot see a thing. Overly colour boosted so everyone looks like they have massive amounts of make-up on (which they may well have haha).

It is one of them things as everyone has such different equipment, I got a dvd player which tries hard and ussually does a perfect job with any disc, even ones with little problems like evil interlacing etc..

It would bug me to death if I saw interlacing lines all the time like on older and cheap dvd players (or just really bad quality discs).
I do not think I have seen many serious line problems for a while, last one was the most evil transfer in years Vexile UK disc :o now that scared me so much I had to turn it off quickly, it did my head in. Took me a while to get thru the film becuase of the disc bugs, no dvd player can mask that crap.
