Oona King named C4's Diversity Chief

Digital Spy wrote:Former MP Oona King has been appointed Channel 4's new head of diversity.

King, who represented the constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow from 1997 to 2005, will take up her post - which was announced among a range of Next on 4 initiatives - in the spring.

"Oona has an impressive mix of experience," said Channel 4 chief executive Andy Duncan. "Her appointment signals our ambition to take the lead in helping broadcasting better reflect the diversity of modern Britain.

"I'm very hopeful that she can play a pivotal role in improving portrayal, attitudes and working practice not just at Channel 4 but right across the industry."

King said the channel was "an amazing platform for diverse voices" but added that there is "more work to be done to connect and reflect social minorities within mainstream broadcasting".
What exact media/TV experience does King have though? Not really sure if I'm bothered either way about this appointment.
Why do you need a "Diversity Chief" though? If there was a job in TV called Chief on White People's Issues, would it be allowed? No.
Its saying she wants to give minorities more of a voice, so fair enough :)[/quote]
