Gothic Lolita Battle Bear (Noboru Iguchi, Rina Takeda -2014)
Stars Shoko Nakagawa. I believe Rina Takeda will be doing the fighting again when the character is in costume. I'm not the biggest fan of Iguchi, though. Too much CGI and lame jokes..
A bit amused to see this shot in 2.35:1, though. Suppose Iguchi is aiming for a grand epic

Iguchi peaked with HYPERTROPHY GENITALS GIRL and has been on a downhill slide ever since in my opinion.HungFist wrote:I've lost my faith in Iguchi, though. Too much CGI and lame jokes, poor technical execution

Sorry Mr. Iguchi, you're a wonderful fella, but with this much CGI in the trailer alone...

Yeah... No. Looks like Iguchi wanted to do a candy-colored film along the lines of Anno's CUTIE HONEY (2004)or Miike's YATTERMAN (2009) except with CGI farts.

Re: Gothic Lolita Battle Bear (Noboru Iguchi, Rina Takeda -2
Saw this yesterday (came up with unexpected reasons for it). Slightly surreal seeing a Iguchi film shot in 2.35:1 on a 12 metre screen in the biggest multiplex in the city. 259 sets - 11 of them taken And that was the opening day, Saturday evening
The best thing about the film: kick-ass soundtrack by Kenji Otsuki's metal/rock band Tokusatsu. Final 15 min is totally off the wall with heroes battling in the air and lolitas levitating and shooting lasers from their breasts, all synced to the theme song.
Rina Takeda plays two roles. She's less interesting while in the super hero costume, thanks to lackluster action and suit design. But she's burning hot in her second role as a metrosexual-escaped-from-host-club -looking pretending-to-be-male (!) bodyguard!!!!
The bad: Another pg-12 flick full of hideous looking CGI blood, CGI bullets, CGI cars, CGI guns And Iguchi's typical fart jokes still aren't funny. And cringeworthy drama. Talento / singer / cat hugger Shoko Nakagawa starting to look too old for lolita outfight, too, or she just has way too much makeup.
The English title Gothic Lolita Battle Bear is fun exploitation, though. The heroine plain straight lolita, the goths are the bad guys, and the battle bear is neither.
Based on the song Fight! Nuigurumar by Kenji Otsuki, released 14 years ago.
Hard to recommend except to those who just discovered crazy Japanese pop culture and loved Robo-Geisha.
