Re: New here

Good to see new blood come in, can I ask why you chose this place over the bigger sites out there? Just curious! :D If you list a few directors whose filmography you've explored we could offer more specific suggestions. For instance you're quite rightly a Kobayashi fan, have you explored the work of...

Re: The SD-DVD & HD Comparisons thread

So do you just want an easy, foolproof way of taking screenshots Mondschein? Vdub is as good as any, but the grabs it takes are in the original format (so stretched for anamorphic screens), I do however still have Lourdes's old batch programs that resizes and saves Vdub screenshots to display format...

Re: The funny thread

Children's animation is edgy now Mark, get fucking with it! :D I believe there have been instances of f-bombs in PGS with sound effects over them (car horn or whatnot) to reduce the clarity of what's being said, but I can't think of a PG example where there's a clear and blatant f-bomb.

Re: The SD-DVD & HD Comparisons thread

PowerDVD you get the choice (IIRC) of uncompressed (bitmap I think) or compressed, imo it's always best to go uncompressed and then compress it yourself in another app where you can control the amount of compression and figure out the right amount without compromising detail. I reckon 52kb or therea...

Re: The SD-DVD & HD Comparisons thread

Actually, since posting the above I've had a chance to look at both yours and Hung's screengrabs on my PC and your PNG screenshot is more accurate, there's little if any difference in colour, it's just that Hung's grab (which is only a 52kb jpeg, so very compressed) is hazier due to the compression,...

Re: The funny thread

Obviously somene at the BBFC has forgotten they've allowed f-bombs in PG rated films before, can't imagine the impact of the word has gotten stronger as time goes by - FFS! Weird their only option given was a 15 though, pretty sure it should be allowed in a 12A! EDIT: Right there in their guidelines...

Re: The SD-DVD & HD Comparisons thread

I believe Hung has always used mediaplayerclassic to take his screenshots and you're using VLC, you could try switching over to see if that gets it any closer to Hung's, but tbh there does tend to be small discrepancies when taking shots with these media players. I've always used Virtualdub myself b...

Re: New look forum, new look logo

Yeah everyone was in it together, a film had to be pretty damn obscure to not gain some form of attention at some forum somewhere! BTW I don't know if you keep in touch with Kev (Moldiver to most on here) but he's written an essay on the golden days of online fandom for the upcoming Arrow book on cu...

Re: New look forum, new look logo

Yeah I'm still friends with one or two from the scene back in the day who gradually moved away from forums in general, not just the discussion of asian cinema, they're still fans though! I guess it was inevitable that the scene would die down eventually, especially with facebook and twitter taking m...

Re: New look forum, new look logo

Yup good times to be an asian film fan! I'm just astonished BnB still exists in some capacity when you see how broken down the asian film fan community is these days. Who would have thought we'd outlast AsianDVDGuide and almost outlast KFC! That place was on shaky ground for a while there.

New look forum, new look logo

As you've no doubt noticed by now Lourdes has had to update the forums to keep things running smoothly and in doing so the old BnB logo that has served us well for so many years finally became somewhat incompatible with the look of the site. Lourdes has knocked up a pretty functional alternative but...

Re: Forum Update & Password Change

New forums look pretty good to me, thanks Lourdes! :notworthy: Have you got the old logo saved? If so could you upload it to WeTransfer or some other similar file transfer site? I might take a crack at producing a new logo for the site at some point and it'd be nice to have the original for reference.

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out

Haven't seen that yet. It's just as derivative as Oblivion but where Oblivion tries to be this hard-hitting twisty-turny sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow is more about having fun with the format. That's really my only problem with Oblivion, if you know the films its ripping off then you see every t...

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out

Not even remotely confusing, probably because there's not a single original moment in the entire thing. I enjoyed it as disposable entertainment, it's too derivative to be anything more. Edge of Tomorrow was much better imo.

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of

If true then meh, but at least the master is in existence now so maybe another distributor oversea can get and do something with it. Arrow have a thread over on Blu-ray.com specifically for suggestios on titles for them to consider don't they? Maybe a bunch of us asian fans can get organised and bom...
