Shogun's Shadow 4,5/5 Damn, this is what I've been looking for. Decent story, great visuals and and fantastic action choreography. The best chambara film since Lone Wold and Cub... Failan 3/5 Everyone seems to love this film, but it left me a bit cold. It's definitely a good movie, but it didn't br...

A nice little film indeed. I bit too long, but otherwise great. I own the japanese dvd myself (bought it before the HK disc was released).

Thanks for the info, Tom.

I think I'll be getting the R2J after all. I don't want to take any risks. I already owned the R1 disc and I don't want to end up buying the same film thrice (that happened with Gohatto; first R2UK, then R2J, now I'm saving for R2FR  )

I'm probably gonna buy Media Blaster's Aragami (hopefully a port of the japanese disc) but I'm interested in the french 2LDK. I was planning to buy the terribly expensive R2J, but now I'm gonna wait till I hear more about the quality of the french release.

Hungfist, are the English subs on the Korean disc of Kids Return decent? There's a bunch of typos but otherwise they seemed fine to me (though I'm not the best person to judge that). I used those subs but fixed some of the typos when I subbed my japanese disc (I only bought it because those idiots ...

Yep it would be minor. I like option 4: 4) Buy a DTS Decoder/Amp/Receiver you cheap skate :D  I'd like that too. But I'm a poor student who uses all his money on dvds... maybe some day. Besides, "Original Mono" is the most precious phrase I know... EDIT: wait a second, I'm not a student anymo...

I still have those bad eyes and can't see any difference between the original and slightly compressed version. And what are the options for those who don't have DTS capability?
1) dvd player with no sound
2) computer
3) compressed dvd with minor quality loss

See :D

Nope. That scared the shit out of me when I was waiting for my dvd to arrive. But both versions have the exact same running time, so no problems.

I watched the coloured cut and will not watch the b&w cut anytime soon as I have no DTS system in my living room, so I'd have to watch it on my computer which sucks. Or you could use dvddecrypter-->dvdlabpro method to make a new dvd. First use dvddecrypter on both discs, then use dvdlabpro to c...

How is the Thai disc of "A Scene at the Sea"? Is it probably a port of the Korean disc as the cover say "Kitano Takeshi Collection No. 2" as well. Both are ports of the japanese disc as far as I know. I got my copy from ethaicd About Kids Return; the korean dvd is a port of the japanese disc. I hav...

I've been thinking about that, but their transfers often seem to have boosted contrast. I'm sure it will still be very good, but since I'm a perfectionist and don't want end up buying the same film twice (that has happeneded too many times), I think I'll just get the japanese release. Besides, for s...

Thankfully they let you decide the value that will be marked on the package and receipt

But yeah, I usually buy one new and one bargain disc to keep it under the customs limit (38€/45$ here in Finland)

Usually I don't care if Korean DVDs go OOP as they're overpriced in the first place and the HK DVD is fine for me. Usually dvdfromkorea and koreandvds are cheaper, but since both are out out of stock... Really? I've not used DVDfromKorea but when I have checked I've mostly found CD WOW cheaper than...

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think the first pressing was limited to 8000 pieces. I pre-ordered my copy early december and I remember all korean stores being out of stock by c...

It would be a good idea to hurry with SFLV since Korean limited editions tend to go OOP (SFLV has been OOP twice already but they re-released it, if I'm not totally mistaken). And other releases probaly won't include the "fade to B&W" version (vastly superior IMO)

I always use 4,7GB discs but that's no problem for me. I don't have dts capabilty, so I don't have to worry about that. I drop out everything that I don't need (commentaries, additional audio tracks, extras, menus...). I'm still gonna have all that on the original disc, so there's no point including...

I just finished the film and while it was enjoyable it was still a bit of a disappointment. Action scenes had too much cqi and too little real fighting (if any). Visually the film looked very nice, though the gci was a problem again in a few scenes. Good actors, but more characterization would've be...
