Mark,

It's NOT Ziyi Zhang(!)
That's a personal pet peeve of mine as well. But it's going to get much worse. In about 10 years, I don't think anyone's name will be written correctly.

That is correct...

DD's Shaw titles have done very well so it comes as no surprise that Image is ripping off DD's cover designs. but it's less to do with the covers, and more more DD releasing good, well known titles in quality transfers with extras. This was something Image had the chance to do, and didn't. Having s...

FYI,

In many cases, Celestial did do a HD master for the films. Actually, it was more or less a lucky result of the system they were using. But some were only given PAL masters. In the majority of cases, it's not possible to go back to the original neg to make another master. So the HD masters will be in...

You left off something.

The lack of sharpness is a big flaw, but all things considered Toei is a notably less bad option. I'm not buying them anyway, so it doesn't matter much to me, but the Toei just looks really crappy in those caps. I'm sure there's a large difference with the film actually moving. But it would a be a ...

Bank Heist/Crime films are a hard sell right now. I can try. A friend's got that tape, so it would make it easier with a little background ie I need to watch it. ;)

How so? It doesn't look it from the screen caps you posted. Most of the shots of the BCI one has less of the brown tinge I see in the Toei screen shots you've posted.

LOL, luckly I don't work for BCI. But I do prefer less "muddy" look of the BCI edition. It's just a shame it's not uncut and doesn't have original language options.

Cool, it's the actual original US version. And it does look a bit better than the Toei edition. Glad to see they squeezed the burning man in! :)

FYI, King of Kung Fu was actually a song lifted from the film of the same name. It was never actually "supposed" to be on the film. It was added by the distributor for international release.

Yes, the Shaws distributed the film back in the day. There's a CHANCE that they may put out a few more co-productions of this type. And they have some VERY good ones!

Yeah,

DD has it. I was dealing with a company that wanted it a while back. Many of the new transfers have been done for quite some time, this among them. FYI, there's never been an uncut version of this film released on video. It was cut by HK censors prior to its original release and that is the version ...

Right

Linn's post implied to me that they were relying on Toei to provide them with nicely remastered masters, but when Toei said they weren't going to remaster them they settled for what they could get at the time. that's what I was saying. And to be clear, I don't work for BCI, so I can't answer questi...

Actually,

I wonder why Ronin always weakens their transfers by making them so dark (and making skintones reddish in the process). Cliff answered this on another forum. They were told by Toei every time that Toei had no plan to release these. Toei then gave them the transfers they did with the undestanding th...

Actually,

That's the most likely explanation. at least two companies I work for attempted to get the rights a few years ago. It had nothing to do with the climate in the US at the time and everything with what they wanted for the rights. It would have been the largest amount for the rights to a single Asian ...

I'm not a fan of...name slapping (?) myself, but I can at least understand it in this case. Tarentino DID get them to get the films and picked all the titles for the label. That said, it's a shame he missed some good ones.

Re: Um...

What makes you say so? Because most Japanese companies don't allow their masters to be remastered by an outside team. The main reason has long been to keep the Japanese releases the best because they are afraid of fans importing the US discs. This is a standing problem with Japanese companines actu...

Picture quality is poor but like I said, Toei is out of question thanks to their 40 000 yen price. That's a shame because Toei probably did better job with the transfers. Considering this is an old TV series, I can't say the quality is poor. It looks like a TV series from 25+ years ago. And I'd be ...

I always took the "right to bear arms" to mean the right for a country to defend itself at time of war not for every fucking yahoo to be able to buy a hand cannon in Walmart.
